Unable to play video in Firefox (and Chrome) through moonlight plugin http://go-mono.com/moonlight/

Hi all,

I am wanting to play streaming video in the following website http://www.deejay.it/dj/tv/deejay_tv which is an Italian music channel.

At first I was asked to install Microsoft Silverlight, in which the link automatically took me to the Linux Moonlight software, which is a replacement.

I have downloaded and installed this software. Now when visiting the website, I see a rectangular black box on the website with a pause button, status bar, and volume control. In the middle of the black box is a circle which is lighting up symbolising that it’s attempting to load something. Unfortunately the screen continues displaying the flashing circle, although no video loads.

I believe that I do have all the appropriate codecs installed, as I’m able to play files in VLC media player. Can anyone offer me any other solution.

Thank you.

Hi
I would guess it’s probably moonlight fighting over codecs. You need to
remove and install moonlight from the repostories.

Hi all,

I have attempted the following without success…

  • Removing moonlight then reinstalling from repository
  • installing the codecs once I have the moonlight from the repository version without success
  • removing the repository one then installing the preview version without success.

I’m uncertain as to what else I can do now… Any suggestions or should I just assume that there is no support for this website at this stage?

Thank you.

Hi
On a clean install of KDE4/11.3 Goldmaster I installed the
moonlight-plugin (and dependents), went to the website, ms codecs
downloaded. Restarted firefox, went to site and all working fine. No
other codecs installed from packman or my normal fluendo codec bundle.

Hi, I know I’m reopening this discussion many months later.
I have been able to get the above page working within Google Chrome.

I have though been unsuccessful in using the original website in firefox.
Is it an error with the browser?

I’m not really too sure what I can do to figure this one out.

Thank you.

Hello there leo_mancini and a very Merry Christmas. Your post got me wondering why this might not work on Firefox, so I loaded moonlight and moonshine and I had to install some codecs on my first visits to the site, but it does work OK in the latest Firefox version (2.6.13) for me. I don’t understand what is being said of course, but it is working. Normally I suggest you use my mmcheck script to check your multimedia setup, but I am really not sure just what moonlight is doing. You could humor me and run mmcheck to see if you can find anything missing, just to make sure. Message #40 have the most recent version to use.

Thank You,

I concur with this.
Works fine

Works for me too, I am using the 2.99.0.10 version of the Moonlight addon, not the package from the repos.

There is something strange with this silverlight / moonlight plugin.
First I installed moonlight + plugin from repo later moonshine.
This was functioning only on some adult sites!?? :
The site I wanted to watch is Ruutu - Etusivu | Ruutu.fi . No success, it was complaining about the silverlight version installed. Like earlier here mentioned also I was brought to the go-mono.com site. From here I tried both versions. Both worked but not on the site I wanted to have. All moonlight things from repo were deleted. :frowning:
Inspired of this thread I deleted the add ons from mono. With Yast I choose only moonshine plugin. Additional Yast installed libmoon, moonlight plugin, moonshine.
Now it works fine. Why, is mysterious.

Oh sh…! My daughter corrected me. The site I mentioned is flash. I wanted to see MTV3 Katsomo which is not working.

I have just these

moonlight-plugin-2.2-4.3.1.x86_64
libmoon0-2.2-4.3.1.x86_64

Hi I am receiving the following output from the terminal when I run Firefox from the terminal

*** nss-shared-helper: Shared database disabled (s](http://pastebin.com/yY0c3Z4D)

Please note that it is in firefox which it is not successful in loading.

google Chrome which runs from the terminal
(the required page loads within google chrome) outputs the following
/usr/bin/google-chrome: /lib64/libz.so.1: no versi

Can anyone notice any difficulties.

Kalli_fin, I am also unable to load the movies from the (what appears for me to be a) russian website, and most frustratingly I am unable to
open my original link of Guarda Deejay Tv - Radio Deejay e Deejay Tv

I am quite determined to get this fixed.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks for the responses so far.
Steps I have taken thus far include…

1 run the latest mmcheck (multimedia check)… no success in the silverlight plugin…
it did though help fix up other media issues I was having on my system.

  1. I tried uninstalling the moonlight plugin from firefox, deleting the moonlight plugin from the yast then installing moonshine, without success.

@leo_mancini
It seems to me there is some trouble with your system. My one is Opensuse 11.3 32bit, KDE 4.4.4., Firefox 3.6.13. Firefox starts up in a console without any message. just firefox. Googlechrome with something libz.so noversion information available. Thats it. Guarda Deejay Tv - Radio Deejay e Deejay Tv works fine. (Seems to me a Spanish site) Silverlight version 2 is enough for this one. Some sites are using already version 4, so does my Finnish site and it don’t work. The preview version from go-moon is still to much alpha. Only white screen with sound and CPU use 99%. I think we have to wait until next update appears.
I belief you have a browser problem and, Sorry, I am not able to help.

Kind Regards from the North

Kalli

Hi,

Just wondering whether it’s worth sending a message on the mozilla firefox forum.
If you are not receiving any other error messages on within the terminal then it may be something further that’s worth investigating.

Thank you.

Hi all,

I have managed to fix the problem. I followed the below link’s advise… started the firefox browser in safe mode.
I clicked the checkbox reset all user preferences to firefox defaults.
Safe Mode | How to | Firefox Support

This appeared to work.

YAY, I hope that other’s can try this and see whether it fixes their problems with running moonlight / silverlight website plugins.

Perhaps I have missed out on something but I can watch television on the site in question without having Moonshine installed. I use Konqueror.

Cheers
