Hello, I have read some of the other threads about Samba, NFS mounts, etc… I have suse 11.1 with KDE 4.13/KDE4. I have installed samba and that is working properly as I can go to Dolphin>Network>Samba Shares>WorkGroup>NAS>Files…
My NAS is a DNS323. I have a folder setup on it as guest. Meaning, no password required. I also have a few other folders setup with a username/password. But for this post, I am just trying to get a mount going with the guest folder. Why? Because I have read that you need to mount to the folder in order for OpenOffice to be able to access across the LAN. Right now, via the Samba method, I can’t open any office files in Dolphin. I get some file lock error…
I have edited my fstab file with a mount to the NAS. That works fine. But when I try to mount it I get this error…
"Could not start process. Cannot talk to klauncher. The name org.kde.klauncher was not provided by any .service files."
Any ideas? Here is my mount setting in fstab…
//IP... /home/DNS323 password=,_netdev 0 0
I have tried both the IP and netbios of the NAS.
Two main problems are going on here with this issue.
1.) Samba works, but unable to open office documents in openoffice (file lock error)???
2.) Unable to mount due to klauncher error???
With this command “kdesu dbus-launch dolphin” I don’t get the Cannot talk to klauncher error.
However, I now get a popup
Could not mount device.
The reported error was:
Usage: mount -V : print version
mount -h : print this help
mount : list mounted filesystems
mount -l : idem, including volume labels
So far the informational part. Next the mounting.
The command is `mount -t fstype] something somewhere’.
Details found in /etc/fstab may be omitted.
mount -a -t|-O] … : mount all stuff from /etc/fstab
mount device : mount device at the known place
mount directory : mount known device here
mount -t type dev dir : ordinary mount command
Note that one does not really mount a device, one mounts
a filesystem (of the given type) found on the device.
One can also mount an already visible directory tree elsewhere:
mount --bind olddir newdir
or move a subtree:
mount --move olddir newdir
One can change the type of mount containing the directory dir:
mount --make-shared dir
mount --make-slave dir
mount --make-private dir
mount --make-unbindable dir
One can change the type of all the mounts in a mount subtree
containing the directory dir:
mount --make-rshared dir
mount --make-rslave dir
mount --make-rprivate dir
mount --make-runbindable dir
A device can be given by name, say /dev/hda1 or /dev/cdrom,
or by label, using -L label or by uuid, using -U uuid .
Other options: -nfFrsvw] -o options] -p passwdfd].
For many more details, say man 8 mount .
I made those changes and still the same. With the work around I posted above, I get the popup window with the instructions on how to mount. Doing it via right click>Open With>File Manager Super User Mode gives me the “Cannot talk to klauncher” error.
I am wondering if I am missing something installed with samba. Would smb4k help any?
