Unable to login into windows/suse

Hi,
I have been a big fan of suse and have been using it since 9.1  . I recently installed opensuse 11 64 bit on my T61P in dual boot with XP(For official work :shame: ).Dual booting worked like a charm and then one day I decided to format a 5GB FAT partition to NTFS using acronis and then at the next reboot I got a ā€œGRUB 17 errorā€ :frowning: So i popped in the DVD and started to repair/install a new GRUB BL. Immediately I got the error ā€œunable to read partition table on /dev/sdaā€ but it reinstalled GRUB BL. Now the windows menu has been removed and when I log into suse and hit ā€œfdisk -lā€ it says ā€œUnable to seek /dev/sdaā€.
If I could just find out the sda# i could add that to the GRUB menu and would be able to boot in to windows.
Luckily I had a windows XP handy and did a fixmbrā€¦but now GRUB has gone :frowning:

Thanks in advance
Akshay

This tutorial might help you: GRUB Boot Multiboot openSUSE Windows (2000, XP, Vista) using the Grub bootloader.

with the mbr fixed on sda, what happens if you install grub again from the dvd ?

If I install grub from the DVD > repair installed system then I do not get the option to boot into windows. :frowning:
The entry shows only opensuse 11 and failsafeā€¦no windows entry is shown.
