i dumped all suse.de, netiq, opensuse, and attachmate cookies in this (chrome) browser on monday or tuesday last and today am unable to log out…
in PM another user reported the same problem (i think in FF) yesterday…
so, apparently there are three hiccups:
-nntp to http gateway seems to not swing
-subscriptions in the http side seem to not be honored via email
-can’t log out from the http side without dumping cookies (and maybe cache)

See other thread.

I believe this is a known issue, it seems to be related to posts from the
NNTP side not triggering the subscription.

[sigh] We just can win with this one. Some people want to never be
logged out, and it’s not logging them out. Some people want to practice
good security, though (which I fully understand), and can’t.
(NB: The above is said in good humour. )
This issue isn’t related to the recent issue, but I’ll pass it along.

seems to be more than that, because the thread subscribed to has had many inputs from http posting folks…check it out.

understand.

i know, it has popped up several times of late (prior to Wednesday,
and since)…
the good news is it timed out…or wait, i shutdown and rebooted for
an unrelated reason…that probably dumped the cache, etc…
anyway, its been about 8 hours since i noticed i couldn’t log
out…so, i guess the clock ran out anyway…

Good to know the timeout is working, but that’s very useful info. I’ll
pass it along.

I noticed that, too. If you don’t clear the cookies, but leave it for
some hours, you are effectively logged out. But i don’t remember how
long I waited.

I’ve been noticing this HTTP cookies thing for awhile now (the effects have been getting ever more severe for about a month now),
And with a little amusement I see that this thread already exists.
I haven’t tried to tear apart what is in the cookies, but surely this shouldn’t be a mystery?
— When a person actually logs out, then the cookie should be removed or replaced with a cookie that invalidates the current session.
IMO this is an ongoing issue likely related to the novell/attachmate/suse login authentication system which I’ve observed has been changing every few weeks for over the past 6mths.
And, the most recent idiosyncrasy of this authentication system is that now my bugzilla and forums authentication no longer is integrated… I need to login separately for each.
And, there is list of other weirdness that needs addressing, eg landing pages
Sometimes if you start from an “odd” page, after login or logout the system won’t know what to do and borks, sometimes returning a 500 error (!!)
Makes me wonder
If the web authentication system is fully funded by Attachmate and not funded by the “open source” side which I’d understand could be lacking in resources
So, for now until this gets straightened out, my workaround has been to make use of multiple browsers when I <must> not use the same cookies, eg when I use a VPN connection instead of a “Direct to Internet” connection… Apparently the cookie has some kind of geolocation data embedded which ablsolutely kills any access when I change connections.

Well, no, it isn’t. Fixing it definitively, though, apparently is more
involved than it seems on the surface (or it would have been fixed by
now).

I haven’t noticed that myself - but understand that the trigger is to do
something in one system or the other (when authenticated to the other)
that requires authentication.
So, in theory, you should be able to login to bugzilla, then come to
the forums and click “register/login” and you won’t be prompted for
credentials.

I can not log out. I stayed disconnected all night, came back this
morning, opened a thread, and I’m still IN.
Removed all the cookies while supposedly logged out, opened a thread…
still IN.

I’d love to know which particular cookie is to blame, and erase that one
and not all. It breaks other things, like bugzilla settings.

next time it happens i’ll nuke just the netIQ (since i think it the
most likely, if a single can cause the problem)…and, i’d you do the
same…(whoever hits the problem first…)…i guess the next most
likely is probably novell.com…and, then opensuse.org (of course
that could all be exactly backwards, or . . .)
i think it would be good if we could determine which ‘one’ is the
problem, so TPTB could focus on that…
though it really is not happening a lot…i wouldn’t wanna see lots
man-hours sunk in finding–after all, maybe its just a transient
perturbation and is one cookie this time and another next

Nope.
I have been trying for the last 5 minutes to log out, erasing one set of
cookies only… no go.

shutdown the browser, then open it again and before browsing to the
forums/etc check to see if there are any cookies from those four
domains listed–if so, nuke’em
then go to the forums and see if you are logged in…if yes, use a
different browser…maybe.

I think it is browser issue. Clearing cache/cookie/offlien site data etc
is probably not working properly. On my browser (SeaMonkey) “Tools
==>clear private data(ctrl+shift+del)” does the job and i need to login
again after that

I give up.
I’m logged in permanently, since last Thursday, 3 days. I had a brutal
crash (power off) in between, but SURPRISE, I’m still logged IN.

I can not log out, and I have given up on the issue.

And me, I’m logged out this time without insisting… go figure.
