You don’t need all of this for VLC.
Have you tried to delete the configuration as I suggested? (~/.config/vlc/)
Ye I had removed the configuration. I have done it again to no avail

Just to be clear, with “Unable to launch” you mean that no window shows up, right?
Have you tried to reboot already since deleting that pulse directory?
Can you try to run vlc as this to get more output maybe?

Well, that’s not really that different I would say…
So it is a system wide problem.
Have you tried playing other files as well? (I’m sure you have…)
Have you ever used the VideoLAN repo? Mixing this with Packman can give problems.
But I guess xine or Amarok would have problems in that case as well.
Maybe try to remove the packages “libvlc-qt0_8” and “libvlc-qt-widgets0_8”.
I don’t have them on my system. Could be of course that something else on your system needs them.

I upgraded from 12.3, This may be the cause of the trouble. I will do a new, clean installation, including the formatting of the home patrition and see what happens. Something is fishy in the system (But all other programs work without complain. I will keep you informed
