I don’t know if Tumbleweed fails to install or there’s some other sort of problem.
On the same machine 13.2 installs and performs perfectly.
So I decided to try both way: installing Snapshot20150508 and installing 13.2 plus updating to tumbleweed, but I get to the same results.
It’s not recent hardware, just an old Dell Inspiron N4110 laptop (core i5).

Next time…
The trick for photographing displays is to use the light from the
display itself, preferably in a dark room. Your hand will tremble, and
you need a long exposure, so use a tripod if you have it, or otherwise
place the camera on a table or something.
I just installed the latest kernel on 3.12 by following the kernel of the day tutorial: openSUSE:Kernel of the day - openSUSE Wiki
The system boots all right. I’m tempted now to try again an update to tumbleweed (by changing the repos and following the instructions).
I wonder if fresh install attempt of Tumbleweed I tried before (or the upgrade attempt) use a different version of the kernel. Here I can see there’s a Vannilla and a Desktop one, and I don’t know about differences or disadvantages/advantages of both.
