I installed OpenSuSE 12.1 in 2 equipments successfully, one with a dual boot for WinXP/OpenSuSE, but when I tried to do it in my personal laptop the disc can’t be read and the machine freezes as soon as it starts reading the DVD. This is for home use only but I’m sure the media is ok
Please note that I actually updated from OpenSuSE 11.4 and it worked fine, except for my laptop. I installed Ubuntu to try it and the installation worked fine. Now I want to reinstall OpenSuSE but I encountered the same problem
Is there a way to install from an external HDD? or any tip on why can be happening with the standard DVD install process?
Thanks in advance!
It sounds as if there’s a problem with the DVD drive - maybe a head misalignment. If you are able to write the DVD on that laptop, it might work.
I have been installing from a USB drive, and that works well. See instructions here:
SDB:Live USB stick - openSUSE
The DVD part of those instructions are partway down the page.
Thanks a lot! I’ll try it and let you know!

Well, if you used that same dvd in the other installs, the dvd is fine. The
readers on laptops sometimes do not work that well. Perhaps you can install
from the live CD instead, or from a USB stick.
