Unable to install any updates...

Automatic updates fail because:

PackageKit Error cannot-remove-system-package: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: package libpackagekit-glib12-0.5.1-3.7.i586 is not installed

Manually updating from yaST gives the same error. However, I cannot find the above packge available for installation. i found the following link in the “Yast2-ncurses broken?” thread, but it doesnt automatically install, and I am unsure whether it will work with ver 11.2:

Index of /pub/gnu/ncurses

Any ideas?

libpackagekit-glib12 is on the OSS repo. It seems like it would be installed by default, assuming you are using the Gnome desktop. What is the output of:

zypper se -i libpackagekit-glib12

and

zypper lr -d

Hello - thank you for the response!

Thanks again!

Try installing it through zypper.

zypper install libpackagekit-glib12

Hmmmm…

linux-cw69:~ # zypper install libpackagekit-glib12

Sorry, I misread the query. I’m not sure why the updater isn’t detecting it. Do this:

rpm --rebuilddb

Hi - tried it twice with apparently a null result:

linux-cw69:~ # rpm --rebuilddb
linux-cw69:~ # rpm --rebuilddb
linux-cw69:~ #

Hmmmm…

No output is expected, rpm will rebuild your rpm database. Try the update now.

Thanks Chief – all nice & updated. Do you happen to know anything about Broadcom wireless cards in Dell laptops and why mine wont work? I have to use a Belkin USB dongle to access WWW.

For your Dell, post result of

/sbin/lspci -nnk

Result is following:

Hope this helps.

I ran the following (found it in a relevant forum):

udo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware

…and rebooted, but the card still wont go

Please click here
http://packman.links2linux.de/install/broadcom-wl

It installs the broadcom-wl

You may need to blacklist the b43 now
But Install the above
reboot

and see
I have to go out for a bit

Ran the install, only partially successful:

Software installation
Installation was only partially successful.
The following packages could not be installed
broadcom-wl-kmp-trace
broadcom-wl-kmp-vmi

Will reboot and see

Those packages are most unlikely required.
All it should install - Normally - Is
broadcom-wl
broadcom-wl-kmp-(desktop or default)

depending which kernel you are using

uname -a

will tell us

See following:

linux-cw69:~ # uname -a
Linux linux-cw69 2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2010-03-16 21:25:39 +0100 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
linux-cw69:~ #

Hope this helps

So you should have

broadcom-wl
broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop

Post result of

rpm --query --all '*broadcom*'

See following:

linux-cw69:~ # rpm --query --all ‘broadcom
broadcom-wl-kmp-xen-5.60.48.36_2.6.31.12_0.2-7.pm.13.2.i586
broadcom-wl-kmp-default-5.60.48.36_2.6.31.12_0.2-7.pm.13.2.i586

broadcom-wl-kmp-pae-5.60.48.36_2.6.31.12_0.2-7.pm.13.2.i586
linux-cw69:~ #

Hope this helps

You only need the one I highlighted red plus one not in the list
broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop

I’m going to hazard a guess that you have a kernel mess there.

Please post result of

rpm --query --all '*kernel*'

See following:
