Hello.
I’ve just installed OpenSUSE 11.2 instead of 11.1 and installed a new kernel 2.6.33. And now I have a problem. When I try Shutdown -> Hibernate under simple user my screen becomes black and nothing happens. Then I move my mouse or press an key and I see my desktop and a window that asks me to enter my root password. I thought there is some problem with permissions so I logged in as a root and tried to hibernate but everything went the same way except there was no window to enter root pass.
I checked my kernel config and hibernate is on there.
What can it be?
Why are you running 2.6.33?
Any other little things you might have done that we should know about?
I’ve update my kernel. Why else should I run 2.6.33?
So honestly… You have no idea, have you?
Sometimes the default and desktop versions behave differently. Have you tried both?
I a terminal what happens with
s2ram -f
Did the default kernel that is supplied via 11.2 updates work?
No I didn’t. What is the difference between them?
That works perfect.
I’ve just built default kernel and my Linux can hibernate. So is it because of some kernel-option? If it so, what option can it be?
Sounds like you made progress:)

Dunno. Above my knowledge base.
Well maybe but since you pulled in a kernel from factory/kernel repo I wonder if perhaps you pulled in other things. It is quite easy to break things if you have some of one version and some of another. My supposition is that you had a problem that caused you to want a newer kernel. Just stating what the problem was there may have been a different approach to fixing it.
