I have downloaded the openSUSE 11 distro in LiveCD by way of a torrent as well as http mode. No matter what, all I get is the Welcome screen then it just hangs after I select the first option. All I see is the openSUSE name in the middle of a green screen. Nothing else happens. Nada.
I’ve done this 3 times now, tried checking the mdsum for the image too but it doesn’t match what’s on the site. What’s there is for DVD’s.
Any suggestions or ideas? I’d like to try it out before installing it.
The CD also has a “mediacheck” option on the menu. That is not the same as the md5sum. The latter checks the integrity of the download, the former the integrity of the burn.
Having checked all of that . . . try using F3 to change to vesa or text mode. Failing that, try typing the following in the Boot Options below the menu:
edd=off
I assume you tried with the Failsafe option?
And, after the menu switches to the green splash screen, hit the Escape key; that will drop the splash and you will see the kernel log. You may see where it hangs; you can post that back here for help. You may also be able to see it under Ctrl-Alt-F1.
Please note that occasionally the Live-CD will not work while the DVD will. IME most often this is due to needing a proprietary graphics driver that can only be installed following a DVD installation. Additionally, the DVD affords granular control of the process while the Live-CD must figure out all the hardware automagically by itself.
Thanks mingus, I see what it is now. One has to keep switching back and forth between http and torrent to get the mdsum file to show. I did as you asked and got the same result as before. However, after clicking back to Torrent and then back to http to make sure I did indeed have the correct one, it then displayed. May be a glitch in the html…who knows.
Anyway, thanks for the reply. I’ll try it again in the morning.
At this time, the Fail-safe option produced some results but only after it sat for around 5 minutes +/-.
I now have a panel of sorts…and now the Desktop has arrived. OK, maybe I didn’t let it “sit” long enough the first time? I’m not sure.
As to my previous reply above, I went back and re-checked my results once more, this time on my laptop. Again, the full hash checks were displayed only after clicking the browser’s (Firefox 3) back button and then selecting torrent then http. Then upon clicking the mdsum link did it take me to the full list.
There must be an issue with the form in the page or something to that effect. Or maybe it’s relative to Firefox 3. I don’t know but, I now have the LiveCD running and that’s what this thread was about.
