Unable to connect to wireless network

Hi,

I am using OpenSuse 11.3 and Network Manager is giving me a headache by not connecting to WEP based wi-fi network.

It works in a wi-fi at my office while at my home, it shows / detects the network but keeps asking me over and over.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

That is generally the signal that you are putting in the key wrong. Are you
aware that a passphrase will not work with WEP and that you need the hexadecimal
key?

That’s strange. Never faced such a ‘hexadecimal’ thing in Mandriva 2010 nor ever in Windows. I always typed in the password/passphrase and it worked without any issues.

OpenSuse 11.2 also gave me errors at the another WEP based network that it would connect without any problems but sometimes, it will hang forever during “Obtaining/acquiring network address”.

There are at least two methods for converting a WEP passphrase into a key. Note
that the networking system always uses a key, never a phrase. Windows (and
Mandriva) use one method, openSUSE and others use a different one.
