are you controlling your networking via ifup or Network Manager?

if the latter, what happens if you nudge Network Manager to life and
“Enable wi-fi”, then go into the settings (“Manage Connections”) and
find the starbuck’s wi-fi and approve connecting with it?

dd

Hi dd,
Thank you for your reply.
I always use Network Manager to control connections.
Maybe my question is not clear enough, i correct it as follow:
In general, my laptop can connect to most of the wifis, but startbucks is an exception, so i want to know how to debug(such as where can i find the detailed log files, and how to analyze errors) it when i encounter such a situation again? maybe you could give me some advice or references.

ask starbucks what they are doing which is unusual.

Just find out what “(reason=3)” means. I may have the link somewhere, but it is 4 AM here and I
feel lazy

38:22:d6:80:52:c1 denied association (code=1)

Here’s the reason. Starbucks rejects you. It refuses to associate with you.

And you didn’t describe the problem clearly. You Starbucks needs to authorize from a webpage, using a string sent to your mobile phone.

I think to a great possibility it’s a wiwiz(wiwiz.com) system. So you’d better try to dig that way.

Hi, Su
Yes, that’s really a Wiwiz system provided by ChinaNet.
My situation was: NetworkManager could not create an active connection with starbucks’s hotspot, so my browser had never redirected to a auth-webpage.
You can try it at starbucks Shanghai.
Thanks.

Hi,

the code 1 here means: WLAN_REASON_UNSPECIFIED, which sounds like a bulls h i t.

(Linux/include/linux/ieee80211.h - Linux Cross Reference - Free Electrons search ieee80211_reasoncode you can get all the reasoncode in kernel.)

but deauthenticating, reason=3 here gives a possible solution:

ps -A | grep wpa_supplicant

and kills it/them.

if you want to debug further, we need your /var/log/wpa_supplicant.log and /var/log/NetworkManager

Have you tried making it a system connection in Network Manager? I’ve had a few situations where I had to do that in order to connect to a new access point, where it looked like the AP was just refusing my connection.

Yes, but still a problem.
Thx.

True Aston

Edit the connection, try setting it to ipv4 only. I’ve met situations where that helped establishing a connection.

haha, b u l l s h i t…

I’m debuging at a corner of starbucks.

My default settings is ‘disabled ipv6’.

Thx.

True Aston

I’m sure you didn’t try

sudo killall wpa_supplicant

or

sudo systemctl stop NetworkManager.service
sudo systemctl start NetworkManager.service

since it works.

if you’re using kde4, save that connection as system connection and remember to enable kwallet
