unable to configure all effects....

Hi All,

I keep Resuming Compositing enabled in Desktop System settings , next time when i see the settings it says “Compositing is disabled”**
What’s the reason for this?**

How does one enable All effects in Desktop system settings -> Desktop Effects?

Observation:
Selecting any of the options and apply(save) will say

Following effects could not be affected…

Thanks in advance…

What KDE, openSUSE and Video Card driver versions are you running? I tried to upgrade to the latest KDE 4.4.2 I think it was and Compositing was not working for me either. However, using KDE 4.3.5, openSUSE 11.2 and the latest nVidia video driver it works just fine. Tell us more about your software setup.

Thank You,

Using KDE 4.3.5…

I am using following nVidia card : GeForce 8400 GS

Were i get to see the driver version?

Thanks in advance

In a text editor, open the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log and take a look at the file.

If you see occurences of:
**] NV(0) or
[II] NV(0) or
==]NV(0)
then your PC is using the openSource “nv” driver.

If you see occurences of
**]NVIDIA(0) or
[II]NVIDIA(0) or
==]NVIDIA(0)
then your PC is using the proprietary nVidia “nvidia” driver.

Thanks oldcpu for the information. Should I decides to try the newer KDE version or anytime I should have a compositing problem again, I shall use the information you provided. I save all of the useful information I find on the forum, particularly from wise users such as you.

Have a happy Easter!

Thank You,
