Unable to boot kernel 6.5.2-1.1 after zypper dup today

Just created bug 1215436 with dmidecode and journal output as attachments.

Stuart

@xabih your issue is NOT the one I have reported here, I suggest you open your own thread as should @Maverick1024 so as not to confuse things. Any fix for my issue will likely NOT resolve your problem.

Stuart

@xabih I just noticed you have opened your own thread, now you need to remove your post in this one please.

In case anyone else finds this the issue is with the firewire_ohci and adding a module blacklist to grub allows the system to boot OK. My motherboard has a firewire interface on it, it’s not an addon card. Now to find out why!

Stuart

@hui — yes I can. All the kernels after 6.4.12 (up till 6.5.4-1 for now) have unusual slowness and key bouncing issues in virtual machines running from windows hosts. (workstation 17.0.2). And yes I did bugzilla’d it.

ā€œbetter user proper multiversion settingsā€ seems to suggest I haven’t , you think? Where did you get that idea? So what I did is making a working kernel the default by restaring an onder kernel, remove the new kernel packages. I just didn’t mention locking the package because that is so obvious that it wasn’t worth mentioning.

@roelandjansen Your issues raised have nothing to do with the problem here.

This specific issue has been determined to be one with some firewire code which was added to the 6.5 kernels and is being address in the bug I created and mentioned earlier. It seems like it might be with a particular type of firewire card and the chips used but that remains to be proved. This is the only issue I have with the 6.5 kernels and can be bypassed by blacklisting firewire_ohci.

Stuart,

I mentioned that there were more issues than only this thing mentioned. And someone wanted to know what. So I told that. I did not say it was specific for this issue.

Also, be happy it’s your only issue so far. I have seen more as mentioned before.

Further to this issue I managed to obtain a Firewire card which does not have the Asmedia chip on it only a VIA one and my system now boots with the 6.5 kernel fine. So if purchasing a Firewire card get one without the Asmedia chip and it should work.
