It is no question of “pixel wise”. It is a question of supported ratio…
Gotcha, no 21:9 support.
Maybe you can change the order of appearance?
I bought a Dell U3818DW (38 inch curved with built-in KVM) a few years ago, which has been the primary monitor here. No gaming, just business stuff.
The desktops (using DVI, HDCP 2.2) and laptops (using HDMI, HDCP 2.2 - one a Latitude, other a ThinkPad), all display at its max resolution of 3840x1600 (21:9).
Yeah, thats because you have HDMI 2.1 or 2.2… But the TO has HDMI 1.4 without support for this format…
And you are also using Intel® UHD Graphics 620 (KBL GT2) on at least one of them?
3840x1600 is 12/5 (2.4:1), not 21/9 (2.333/1).
Order of what appearance? TV room setups typically only have a place for one screen.
I’m just quoting from the Dell Manual

Do you understand what this topic is about?
If the graphic output of a Laptop/Desktop does not support a specific format, your monitor can have whatever format you want, it wont work. This is the problem of the TO. His laptop only has a HDMI 1.4 port, but HDMI 1.4 does not support a ratio of 21:9 which his monitor has.
So please don’t litter this already long thread with irrelevant OT stuff…
You have a completely different hardware constellation as the TO…
I meant in the grub menu or perhaps there is some way to have the desired item highlighted by default.
This topic can be closed now as far as I’m concerned. Thank you all for the input.
I was providing positive proof that HDMI specs over 1.4 will support the higher resolutions. Sorry for ruffling everyone’s feathers ![]()
