ugly firefox fonts

im using opensuse 13.1
i installed 3 windows fonts : times new roman , arial , tahoma
suddenly i found firefox fonts very weird
i went to the font browser it had no option of removing these fonts , i deleted them from the file browser and still they appear in the font browser and the firefox fonts are weird and too small

Go to Preferences => Content Tab and click on Advanced.
Check if “Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selection above” is checked.

Maybe that helps.

it’s set to "Allow pages to choose their own fonts" , i actually haven’t configured anything in firefox i just installed the fonts:X

Hmm.
You can try this as well:
Preferences => Advanced => General => Browsing: “Use hardware acceleration when available”

And check if the minimum font size “none”.

Alternatively, you could delete or rename the Firefox profile folder and restart Firefox. Maybe there is something wrong with the profile.

how do i delete or rename the profile , it seems like the only solution left

You can find your Firefox profil under:
/home/USER/.mozilla/firefox/

If you delete the folder make sure that you make a Backup of your bookmarks. All bookmarks and extensions will be lost after deletion.

can i backup the cache file ? if so , how ?

Mind telling me why you need to install these 3 fonts?, to my experience the default FF fonts just good. What DE are you using currently.

Why don’t you simply create a new user and try there? It get all default
settings, and your normal user is not modified at all.

Instead of deleting your current profile you can make new profile to see if the problem is with your settings or it is firefox in general. You can launch profile manager with:

firefox -P

Create new profile and launch it from there.

If the problem appear on the new profile you can try to update font cache after deleting those fonts.

fc-cache -fv

It is a little weird, because I always install Microsoft fonts after every new install to help font rendering on some websites.

what’s DE !!!

why i used the fonts :
for my college work i sometimes need to send some documents to classmates or professors , microsoft office has poor compatibility with liberation serif and most fonts in libreoffice !!!

that’s what i did , thanx
but unfortunately i gave up the entire previous user :frowning:

unfortunately im now using a new user account now , but that seems really helpful , i’ll consider that if i encounter this problem again thanx

Is this font problem only on firefox or on your desktop in general? Have you set anti aliasing from font settings?

Well, this means that it is not a system problem, but some local
configuration you did for that user.
