For the snapper rollback you need to stay in the GUI terminal:
To perform the rollback, run
sudo snapper rollback
and reboot afterward. On the boot screen, choose the default boot entry to reboot into the reinstated system. A snapshot of the file system status before the rollback is created. The default subvolume for root will be replaced with a fresh read-write snapshot.
Hi,
You are a champion. My machine is back up and so far so good it seems to be working OK. A thousand thanks.
Sadly I am not having the same experience with my laptop as it is only working with IceWM desktop. How do I get back to my normal desktop WM. I hardly ever use IceWM
and I just donāt wish to have to learn new tricks. Will explore some more and post new thread if I cannot solve it.
I need to read the snapper manual again but it seems for my experience so far that all my snapshots may be RO until I use rollback command. Is this the correct default situation or is my configuration faulty?
@grg Yes, that is a common misunderstanding for new users and others not that deep into solving the mysteries. It took me awhile to realize that one back when I started out.
Wouldnāt it be less confusing to say the console?
Or may be not as Gnome is switching from the Terminal app to Console sometime in the future.
How about GUI session and TUI/CLI session?
TTYs are confusing because the user is already in one with a graphical shell, so they might be thinking why change to a different one or they may not be aware of the concept at all.
Once upon a time CTRL+ALT+F1 ⦠CTRL+ALT+F7 were known as VT1 ⦠VT7 but here āVirtual Terminal 1ā¦7ā is about as confusing unless one knows that Xterm, Konsole etc. are āTerminal Emulatorsā strictly speaking⦠and can tell the difference
