Hello
I have a tutorial in mind which I think users may benefit from, what I would like to know is where would be the best place to put it? I am assuming here
depends on what it is?
i see this is your first post here .-=WELCOME=-. but are you sure you
are ready to start building tutorials for openSUSE? how many years
experience do you have using it, and are you sure your tutorial has
not already been done here??
maybe it should go either into the wiki or maybe the forum here:
Unreviewed How To and FAQ - POST HERE: Tips and solutions for SUSE
Linux from the community. (Please do not post questions)
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/how-faq-forums/unreviewed-how-faq/
but NOT in the “looking for” forum, see the list of all forums here:

Hello DenverD
The tutorial in question is a installation. I have 4+ years of experience in computing however using any version of Linux from the command line is a different matter. I can browse around the system with no problem (installing / removing software, configuring users etc…
If you wish I could make it on my website but not link to the page (on my site) should you wish to see it prior to making it live on here. I have installed several versions of OpenSUSE with no problem.
I have screenshots ready to guide users through the installation from booting off the cd to partitioning to setting date and time, finished installation to logging on. I’m not going to go into great detail as the screenshots can show that. I see you have a tutorial of how to install from a USB stick however this is from a CD.
Thanks
You mean like:

Picasa Web Albums - carl fletcher - openSUSE 11.2…
Just like that the version I have is 11.3

Carl also has one for 11.3, and have you seen this on our wiki:
http://doc.opensuse.org/products/opensuse/openSUSE/opensuse-installquick/
it has a link right there on the software download page
<http://software.opensuse.org/113/en>
my experience is that openSUSE does not suffer from lack of
documentation and tutorials…instead they seem to be invisible to or
unfindable by new users…
i can’t figure out why that is, can you?

Thanks and I know why I didn’t see them. Nothing as been going good for me today so I just went to the download section and downloaded it and forgot to look for documentation. So i’ll admit thats my bad.
But I do like this version mind I used a version a year or so back can’t remember which one so thought I would get it back installed and get back into it.
Thanks

its not a matter of being ‘bad’, or good…i can easily understand
getting excited about a shiny new system just waiting to be burned and
booted from…at a time like that how does anyone have time to look
around…
…i real happy you are willing to contribute a tutorial at all…i
just wish i could figure out how to make it easier for all the stuff
that is already available easier to find…
HEY, how about if the “Download” button was WAY down at the bottom of
the page…OR on the NEXT page after you had spent more than one
second on the “Here is a BIG list of documentation page.”

would be a good idea that, using large letters as you go also could you see it being a problem posting the tutorial on a tech site i’m on? I know the software is free and such but its nice to ask as I think its a mark of respect in my own opinion. But I will say this openSUSE is my favorite distribution
at least its easy to use and for most tasks you don’t need lots of command line knowledge but I might just buy a hand guide to be safe so I got a hard copy

do you mean a site other than this one?
sure i guess it is ok, i don’t think much here is copyrighted, except
the openSUSE name and logo…(maybe not even those…maybe they are
not copyrighted, but trademarked…a different legal critter)
but why not just post a LINK to the already existing material on this
site…and explain how easy it is?
well, maybe yours is a language other than english?
have you looked to see if your favorite lingo is offered on the front
page to this site, here: http://forums.opensuse.org/

Hello it is English but I thought it would make a nice edition. I know they don’t mind links if the info isn’t on their site but as I always like to say more the better. English is my only language so im fine

there is nothing to stop you from posting it to the forum here which i
gave you in my first response:
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/how-faq-forums/unreviewed-how-faq/
if it is helpful i am sure it will be used, if it needs improvement
i’d guess you might get some helpful hints from some of the others
around…and if it is the best of breed it might even get moved into
the read-only side…
thank you for your helpful nature, it is the only way FOSS keeps growing!

It is an installation of 11.1 but not much has changed. 99.9% of it is still relevant. It will be updated when 11.4 is final.
There are also tutorials at Novell Documentation
