Tunnelbear VPN

I see that Tunnelbear VPN now has a limited support for Linux. Does anyone here have experience of installing and running the application on Opensuse Leap 15.2? Can anyone give me zypper instructions? Thank you

I doubt there is much experience on 15.2, because that is not yet released. It is still in testing.

Hi
Things that make you go hmmmm…

Someone could be trying to impersonate the site and you should not continue.

Websites prove their identity via certificates. Firefox does not trust www{dot}tunnelbear{dot}com because its certificate issuer is unknown, the certificate is self-signed, or the server is not sending the correct intermediate certificates.

Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER

Yes, my bad. 15.1 is what I am running. The question still applies. I am not sure what Malcolmlewis is implying??

I changed the prefix of the title.

I guesss he tried to get more information about Tunnelbear. The fact that you post here about the product as if everybody certainly would know what you are talking about is wishfull thinking IMHO.
And searching about what type of bear that is he landed on an untrusted web site :(.

Hi
It’s ironic that a site that purports security eg vpn, yet they can’t even create a proper authentic certificate for their website… I would not use the product

Probably not unusual.
I’ve observed almost every VPN service large and small make surprising mistakes.
And some like one of the current largest makes outlandish claims to sell their service that are patently untrue because don’t even match what VPNs do.
IMO main thing is to recognize that whatever VPN protocol is used if up to date and reasonably maintained should be OK. If the VPN setup and connection works correctly on your own machine, that’s a success. You only then have to trust whatever is happening on the Server (maybe multiple servers) is set up and working correctly, but that’s beyond your ability to inspect and verify.
Then, weigh against your needs… If you’re just using it to view Netflix when traveling, that’s different than life and death for persecuted journalists, for example.

And, be aware that VPN services recognize that Linux folks <should> know how to set up a VPN client on their own machines, so “limited Linux support” doesn’t mean much to me… Just know what to do your own machine and see if the service works.

So what does the average Opensuse client do if he wants VPN protection? Do most of you create your own VPNs? Are there open source applications that work well for Opensuse clients? Thanks for your help.

I’ve been using Express across all my devices (Linux, Windows, Android & iPhone) and it has been great. Worth the money. I’ve also taken a look at Perfect Privacy.
