TUMBLEWEED: Welcome screen has changed

The Welcome screen has changed after today’s update. Was this by design?

Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20210904
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.85.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.14.0-1-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-4810MQ CPU @ 2.80GHz
Memory: 31.0 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa DRI Intel® HD Graphics 4600

It looked about the same to me.

I don’t normally see that welcome screen, because I uncheck that box for “Show next time”. This time, I first used CTRL-ALT-F1 to get a terminal login. I logged in there, and went to “.config/autostart” and removed the “.desktop” file that blocks it from showing.

I then logged into KDE, and got pretty much the screen that you are showing as the “Old Welcome”. The message on the bottom line was different, but otherwise it was the same.

I know it’s a little thing, but it matters to me. ;-))
Here is what I have on 15.3.

That looks exactly the same as what I saw on Tumbleweed, when I checked yesterday.

I do not start the Welcome-utility automatically.

But when i start it from the menu i can see the green screen (what you called “The current Welcome after update …”) for one or two seconds and then the “normal” Welcome screen (what you called “Old Welcome”) is displayed. So probably you just have to wait a bit longer or check the journal for any errors.

I normally don’t start from the menu. But, when I do, I see what you described.

For session startup, that initial green screen is probably hidden by the desktop session startup.

Here is what I see in the logs when I start the Welcome Utility.

Reinstall or use Experimental branch.

I don’t see any interesting logs from starting the Welcome application from the menu – just a log record that it was started.

It looks as if there are bugs somewhere, perhaps in the support of your graphics card.

I tried both, but no joy.
