Tumbleweed/KDE on old i586
For at least 4 days I ask for an update and I always get 38 problems - all require a vendor change from Packman to openSUSE. Since I would like to stay with packman (Multimedia) I always clicked cancel. That is what is option is offered - no option to keep the old package:
Problem: problem with installed package gstreamer-1.8.2-75.12.i586
Solution 1: install gstreamer-1.8.2-1.1.i586 (with vendor change)
http://packman.links2linux.de --> openSUSE
**Choose the above solution using '1' or skip, retry or cancel [1/s/r/c] (c): **c
I tried over the last few days, hoping that the packman repositories come up with the updates too - nothing so far. What are my options if I don’t want to break the multimedia facilities?
Cheers
Uli
Thank you, OrsoBruno, that is the problem I have. But the link does not help me much either. Unfortunately I am not a computer person and therefor may not see the obvious. I used the command
**linux-top:~ #** export SOLVER_FLAG_DUP_ALLOW_VENDORCHANGE=0; zypper dup
on the advice I received here in the forum. Your link has several suggestions but …
e.g. use zypper -v dup - which in this case gives exactly the same output
**linux-top:~ #** export SOLVER_FLAG_DUP_ALLOW_VENDORCHANGE=0; zypper dup

e.g. allow vendor change - will multimedia still work afterwards? I had once after careless upgrade allowed a vendor change and some features did not work any more until I reversed it.
e.g. use zypper up - apart from the advice from this forum to upgrade tumbleweed with zypper dup, this seems to want to upgrade one of the gstreamer packages not listed above??? - I presume from packman - and it lists a lot of other packages zypper dup didn’t list.
**linux-top:~ #** zypper up

So the question is what to do? Use zypper up to at least upgrade packages like chromium, etc or wait?
Since the problem affects the Packman repo apparently, it should be safe to “lock” all the Packman packages and update the others.
Open Yast - Software Management
View > Repositories > select Packman
go to menu Package > All in this list > select “Protected – Do Not Modify”
Click “Accept”
Then you should be able to update all the other packages with Software Management or “zypper up” without problems.
Once the Packman problem is resolved, you should repeat the above procedure selecting instead
Package > All in this list > select “Update if newer version available”
