Tumbleweed starting back up

Hi all,

As you might have noticed, there’s a new kernel in Tumbleweed for you to
use right now, and a few low-level utilities are updated as well.

The plans for after the kernel is updated is to move in the latest
version of Libreoffice and get the KDE update working as well. After
that, I’ll look at the GNOME 3.6 update and see if that is possible or
not.

As those large systems go through the testing and build stages, if there
are any individual packages that people wish to see added to Tumbleweed,
that are newer than what is currently in 12.2, please let me know here or
on the opensuse factory mailing list.

And as always, if you are curious as to what is currently being worked
on, you can always glance at the openSUSE:Tumbleweed:Testing repo to see
what is coming next.

thanks,

greg k-h

Nice to see thing are rolling again. Thank you for the new kernel, works nice. Looking forward to KDE 4.9.
Keep up the good work!

Hi Greg.
I wanted to try the new kernel due to hibernation issues.

But with the zypper dup, I keep getting these dependencies errors:

Problema: libwx_gtk2u_core-2_8-0-compat-lib-stl-2.8.12-13.1.2.i586 requiere wxWidgets-compat-lib-config = 2.8.12, pero este requcumplirse
Problema: phonon-backend-vlc-0.6.0-1.1.i586 requiere libqt4 >= 4.8.2, pero este requisito no puede cumplirse

I guess i’ll just have to wait, don’t I?

Thanks

No Need to wait, You can install kernel 3.6 tonight if you wish: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/linux-3.6.tar.bz2 & http://forums.opensuse.org/blogs/jdmcdaniel3/s-k-c-suse-automated-kernel-compiler-version-2-50-34/y

Thank You,

Just a side note, so that you can make these posts easier to read in international forums like
this. If you run (any) command this way:

LANG=en_US.UTF-8 zypper {etc}

The result will be in English regardless of your locale.

I don’t know where that is coming from, you must have some other repo
other than just openSUSE 12.2 and Tumbleweed enabled. Because of that,
you are always going to be on your own and have to deal with package
conflicts like this.

good luck,

greg k-h

I upgraded to kernel 3.6 - no problems at all. Thanks. Looking forward to another upgrades.

Kernel 3.6 works fine,Looking forward to GNOME 3.6 and Emacs(which is 23.x, but 24.x in 12.2?)

For anyone using kernel 3.6.x and Samba, because you have two or more PC’s on the same network, are you having a problem sharing files between the two Samba hosts? Upon testing this weekend between three PC’s, Samba just did not work properly for me while using kernel 3.6 or 3.6.1, but dropping down to kernel 3.5.6 seems to work just fine with Samba. Operation was intermittent and restarting PC’s could cause the problem to change. Any comments on this issue (Linux kernel 3.6 & Samba) would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Wouldn’t it be better to start a new thread on this matter in the Tumbleweed forums, it may affect more users.

Good proposal, but is it a Tumbleweed issue? Wouldn’t Pre-release subforum be more appropriate?

Xournal would be great, the opensuse version is 0.4.5, the last one 0.4.7.

Regards.

The application has to already be in openSUSE:Factory, that is one of the
requirement for being in openSUSE:Tumbleweed.

Work on getting it into Factory, and then I will be glad to get it into
Tumbleweed.

The openSUSE:Factory one is still at 0.4.5 as well, please have the
package owner update it in Factory first, and then let me know and I’ll
be glad to add it to Tumbleweed.

I really hope we get the gnome 3.6 update, the new gtk2 theme in gnome 3.6 makes gnome 3 so much more usable. (gtk2 apps no longer has out of place looking clearlooks theme)

I would be very grateful if you can do these RPM source packages
