[Tumbleweed] Spurious Interrupts Cauisng System Stuttering and Mouse/Keyboard issues

Hello,

Ever since installing tumbleweed, usually after hibernating/sleeping my computer, I being to experience computer stutters, mouse movements/inputs dropping, and keys repeating or lagging behind.
I previously used Endeavor and never experienced this issue or anything like it.

Upon looking in journalctl logs, I usually find kernel: pcieport 0000:00:01.1: PME: Spurious native interrupt!or kwin_wayland_wrapper[1890]: Key repeat discarded, Wayland compositor doesn't seem to be processing events fast enough!
As I write this, I am experiencing stutters/delays between typing and keys actually appearing.

Jan 30 14:56:19 DellG15 kwin_wayland_wrapper[1890]: Key repeat discarded, Wayland compositor doesn't seem to be processing events fast enough!
Jan 30 14:56:19 DellG15 kwin_wayland_wrapper[1890]: Key repeat discarded, Wayland compositor doesn't seem to be processing events fast enough!
Jan 30 14:56:19 DellG15 kwin_wayland_wrapper[1890]: Key repeat discarded, Wayland compositor doesn't seem to be processing events fast enough!

And another 13 identical messages.

What I have noticed:

It mainly happens after waking my computer after hibernating or sleeping my system. The frequency seems to go up as time goes on.
Spurious native interrupt! is frequently preceded by snapper starting/ending/cleaning a backup. But not always. Sometimes it just… happens for seemingly no reason.
I have also noticed this error that happens every so often.

Currently, I have journalctl opened in konsole on a second monitor and firefox opened on my main monitor. For whatever reason, with this setup, I am experiencing far more frequent key stutters than usual. Closing the konsole window causes no difference in frequency.

There are potentially an number of factors that could be contributing here. I note that you have two monitors connected - one operating at 60Hz and another at 120Hz. That alone can increase GPU workload. Does the problem occur to the same extent, when only using one display?

Are you using the NVIDIA drivers? Please share your graphics hardware and driver info from inxi -SGaz.

With respect to possible PCIe ASPM issues, try using the following GRUB parameters. Press ‘e’ at the GRUB boot screen and add them to the end of the line starting with linux…
pcie_aspm=off pci=noaer
then Ctrl + X or F10 to boot.

Check if that reduces or eliminates the unwanted behaviour following a suspend/resume cycle.

@Pandoroeo Hi and welcome to the Forum
The snapper cleanup timer runs on the hour (after boot [maybe after resume from suspend]), so you may just be seeing this maintenance running and not an issue.

….and if that is the case you should see it come right on its own.

I’ll test unplugging my second monitor and adding the GRUB parameter tomorrow (~12 hours from now)
I am using the NVIDIA drivers. As for the inxi -SGaz command:

I also remembered that upon booting my computer from a shutdown, rebooting (boot phase), or resuming from hibernation, I see this message after the boot menu and before the login screen:

ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Failure creating named object [\_SB.PCI0.GP17.XHC0._S0W], AE_ALREADY_EXISTS (20250807/dswload2-326)

CPI Error: AE_ALREADY_EXISTS, During name lookup/catalog (20250807/psobject-220)

I think the messages are largely harmless (quirky/broken BIOS ACPI tables often only evident when using Linux).

@Pandoroeo Hi you need to upgrade (zypper dup) the system there are numerous Kernel, Nvidia driver and Mesa updates, lots happens on Tumbleweed in a month.

Likewise other users have reported issues in the Forum mixing AMD and Nvidia, you might need to see if you can get EGL tied into the radeonsi driver rather than nvidia first. Then just use nvidia for Prime Render Offload.

I don’t use any amd/nvidia setups, or Plasma so can’t comment on that Desktop.

That is a good point, as I saw some activity potentially relating to my issue. I don’t remember the exact details, however. I’ll post if it fixes (or doesn’t fix) anything

As for the EGL thing, what do you mean by tying it into the radeonsi driver first? Additionally, I don’t think my laptop supports Prime Render Offload as it does not support optimus (but the version with the 3060 does! (I have the 3050 version))

@Pandoroeo All secondary, trinary etc gpu’s do… Use switcherooctl and the systemd service… It doesn’t have to be a 3D or Display Controller.

As you can see OpenGL and Vulkan are using the AMD gpu, EGL is using the Nvidia GPU which may be causing the issues…

I’m not very knowledgeable (or more like have no knowledge) about this, so apologies in advance.
From what you have said:
OpenGL and Vulkan are using AMD gpu.
EGL is using nvidia Gpu.

But if I look at the command, EGL mentions amd radeonsi. Why is this?
If I look at Vulkan, it mentions my NVIDIA graphics card. Why is this?

What does it mean for, “EGL tied into the radeonsi driver rather than NVIDIA first”? What would the command show to confirm this has been successfully done?
Do you have any documentation that you could provide to accomplish this?

Edit: Just realized my comment above this replied to specifically “Prime Render Offload”. Oops, I just meant to reply to the entire comment.

@Pandoroeo The first driver mentioned in the inxi output is the default in use, in this case I see nvidia first for EGL…

I could be completely wrong as well with this causing the issue you have, just an observation since I don’t run AMD gpu’s (RX550) with Nvidia as it caused all sorts of issues with my setup.

Ah, so you are stating:
EGL is defaulting to NVIDIA, while Vulkan and OpenGL are defaulting to my AMD integrated GPU.
You are theorizing that if I swap EGL to default to my AMD integrated GPU, this may fix my issue.
If this does, then I can simply use switcherooctl to run applications that need/benefit from my NVIDIA graphics card (i.e., games).
You mentioned “switcherooctl and the systemd service”. What do you mean by the systemd service?

And update: Doesn’t look like it’s fixed with just updating. It does seem slightly better, but as I said, it gets worse as time goes on, and it’s only been maybe 20 minutes total.

I left my computer running for the past 2 hours. I tried updating and unplugging my second monitor, but seems like it still occurs. At the start of typing this message, it was no where near as frequent. I looked over the log for ~10 minutes… and now it’s every few dozen seconds to every few seconds. Hmm

@Pandoroeo so if you run /sbin/lspci | grep "01.1" what is the output?

@Pandoroeo Have you looked for a BIOS update, as root user run fwupdmgr get-updates

I do see this as well https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=215884

Testing with the pcie_aspm=off pci=noaer GRUB parameters:
Seems to still happen. The errors are no longer logged to journalctl (due to the parameters), but my mouse is dropping inputs, key inputs are still delayed, etc… Keys are not repeating yet, but I only have 46 minutes uptime, and it usually occurs after 2-3 hours of uptime.

A new bug report may be the best way forward.
