Tumbleweed Repos

When I install Tumbleweed, the repo list does not look like it does here https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Tumbleweed_installation#Repositories for the upgrade instructions. Is this correct and normal? There is only the word ‘factory’ in one repo and no use of ‘Tumbleweed’ anywhere. TIA DrT

Well, it is normal at least. Both point to the same thing.

Of course it is not really correct that the /factory URLs are still added as repos, as the /factory links will disappear in a few months. This “problem” is known and it is being worked on to fix this.

Please change the repos URLs to the ones on the page you linked to manually (with YaST->Software Repositories, with zypper, or by editing the text files in /etc/zypp/repos.d/).

PS: 913561 – After installation of current snapshot factory repositories are present

Thanks wolfi323, all repos changed. All reads correctly in the software sources except that the online update applet in Yast 2 says I do not have an update repo configured. I do and it is present. I even added a trailing ‘/’ as I read somewhere. The update repo shows no updates, but the notification applert on the lower right of the status bar says there is a distro update to d/l.

So I am stuck in that the online update does not work correctly at present. I did try to search the forum, but did not come up with anything.

TIA

The “problem” is that the update repo is empty at the moment, and it will be most of the time.
Tumbleweed is a rolling distribution, you get all updates via the standard repo.

The update repo only exists so that emergency updates/critical security fixes can be rolled out at times when Tumbleweed cannot be published because the tests fail.

You should use “zypper dup” to keep your system up-to-date, YaST->Online Update is useless on Tumbleweed.
You can use the update applet, YaST->Software Management, or “zypper up” as well most of the time, but those won’t be able to cope with all changes in Tumbleweed, e.g. they might have problems when packages are dropped or renamed.

@ wolfi323

Many thanks for your help with this. Info bang on.

With kindest regards
