Tumbleweed MATE desktop broken in April 10 update

@snydar

So, I tried to do that . . . interesting mix of console and GUI . . . that opened the “root” directory in the GUI caja . . . I navi’d to the file, right-clicked and selected “properties” and then removed the “.desktop” data from the file name. Then I closed the window and shut down.

On cold boot, logging in still showed the same error on the “GvcApplet” . . . but this time didn’t show “desktop” . . . ?? I tried again to use caja as root, navi’d to the file and in properties the “.desktop” is gone . . . as it should be, so that move was “accepted” but it still is showing the error on the applet??

Anything else to do? It’s not a show-stopper, but a minor distraction . . . . Do I have to run the latest zypper ref?? or dup to get the system to rm the notification?

There were some errors in the console with the “caja” command . . . is that “normal”?

Hello @non_space , the error messages are not bad, but it still works to start Caja as root. You can ignore the messages.

For the problem with the org.mate.applets.GvcApplet.mate-panel-applet I followed what is written in the Github link.

Unfortunately, I had clicked “Remove” on all of them a few days ago in my VM when the error messages about the clock, desktop switcher etc. appeared. That’s why I no longer had the GvcApplet in the panel.
If the error message appears when you restart, you can click Remove. I haven’t noticed any difference.

And on the laptop on which I had installed Tumbleweed, I also clicked Remove when the message appeared before I deleted the .desktop extension.

MATE is simply not running smoothly after the update to 1.28.
