Tumbleweed - last 3 updates are going badly

Hi all,

The last 3 sudu zypper dup have not gone well!

2 weeks ago, I did an update - are logging in my desktop was just black (empty). I had the Welcome splash screen, and I could launch firefox from there. But nothing else! - I rolled it back.

Last week, after my update - same thing. I rolled it back.

Last night, after my update, I can’t log in. I get the login screen, enter my details, the screen goes blank for around 30 seconds, then back to the login screen. I rolled it back…

Anybody got a fix?

Kind regards
Pedro

Thanks for those threads.

Should I be patient, and wait for a fix or, be proactive in breaking my system

Because zypper hasn’t been successful for a few weeks, it’s now taking about 6 hours to run…

I’ll try again in a few days. It that doesn’t work I try :-

sudo zypper dup --from openSUSE:update-tumbleweed --allow-vendor-change

Kind regards
Pedro

You can download without installing by using zypper dup -d. That at least will get the packages downloaded for when the known issues are resolved, if those issues potentially affect you (they may well not).

Thanks for the tip @hendersj .

I have done that before. zypper dup -d is helpful to resolve conflict issues prior to letting the install run overnight…

Kind regards
Pedro

An update -

I went into Yast to disable any non Opensuse repositories, and I saw that I actually didn’t have any non Opensuse repositories enabled.

I ran sudo zypper dup --allow-vendor-change

After around 6 hours, and a very looooooong reboot (20-30 minutes), it came back to life :grinning:

I don’t know what fix it - the wait, or the --allow-vendor-change…

Kind regards
Pedro

Glad to hear things are back to normal for you. I ran an update myself a couple days ago that caught up about 20 days of updates for me (about 1000 packages total) - and I did the pre-download route myself because it was such a large update.
