I installed the gnome version a couple of weeks ago and I am having trouble with screen lock. About 1 in 3 times I think gnome-shell kind of does the restart (like if you did alt-f2 r). About 1 in 3 times it locks as expected, and about 1 in 3 times I think it crashes and ends the session, sending you back to the original gdm login page. This happens whether I select lock-screen from the drop down or if I use Super+L. I have the same problems in Wayland or X
Any suggestions, even for trouble shooting?
Thanks

Hi
What graphics card and driver?
/sbin/lspci -nnk |grep -A3 VGA
Also, when it happens check for X errors;
cat ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log
cat ~/.xsession-errors-\:0

I did have a problem with my gnome-keyring not unlocking when I logged in. I used this command to unlock it (I’m using gdm):
sudo /usr/sbin/pam-config -a --gnome_keyring --gnome_keyring-auto_start --gnome_keyring-only_if=gdm,gdm-password,lxdm,lightdm
Hi
So that’s a skylake device… hmmm, maybe some module options required then.
Have a look here at some skylake tweaks;
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_graphics#Skylake_support
Use YaST bootloader to add kernel options.
Else probably time to look at a bug report…

Thanks again for the reply. I’m kind of wondering why you think it might be a video driver issue? I haven’t had the system crash or hang on me, just this weird screen-lock behavior. I’ve run fedora/gnome-ubuntu/kubuntu without encountering this problem. I know skylake has had a pretty rough run, but this seems idiosyncratic to opensuse, granted it might just be idiosyncratic to me.
I wish I could locate an actual error…
Hi
So what about any gnome-shell extensions? Any other customizations?
Thanks for the suggestion! That did it. There was an extension called Launch that changed the “Applications” in the top bar to a application square button. With that off screen lock works again.
Thanks again.
