Hi, I have the Tumbleweed version 20190606 and the latest version reinstalled all packages. Here I read that it was because of the new version of the gcc compiler or something similar. Today I wanted to update again with zypper dup and again it wants to completely reinstall the system with more that 2700 packages. Is the correct? I stopped the update for now. And just before someone asks - here are my repositories:
Yes, it seems to be updating a large number of packages. I do not know the reason.
I did a preliminary update of a few packages (zypper, systemd, and a few others). They were downloading at a very slow rate. I then started a “zypper dup”, but aborted because of network timeouts on the first package it was trying to download.
Something is wrong here. In the preliminary update, the download of libzypp listed the speed as 217.2 KiB/s, and it listed the package size as 2.1MiB. At that speed, it should have taken around 10 seconds. But it actually took several minutes to download. I was updating from Icewm, and the network applet in the tray was saying that my network data rate was averaging 307 B/s.
Yes I noted that the refreshing of the repos took at least a quarter of an hour. But although I have fibre to the house international downloads (there is no mirror in New Zealand) vary a lot. When I wanted to download Leap15.1 the first day I tired the download would have taken more than a day. The next day the DVD version was here in approx 20 minutes. So I assumed it was again a bad international connection with the refresh which was slow. So I better wait anyway - may be someone else knows more…

No, just overloaded infrastructure deploying all the packages, plus (if you follow IRC #opensuse-admin) the mirror db was bouncing around a bit today. Then has to rsync out to all the mirrors, with big updates this always takes time…
I see that when downloading a Tumbleweed iso. But I think it’s because the mirrors are not ready at that time. And main download site is using part of its bandwidth to update mirrors.
I’m not surprised at the slow download rate, especially with this big an update. What bothered me, is that “zypper” is stating a download rate that is a lot more optimistic than what I am actually seeing.
Yes the entire distro is rebuilt so that’s a real number.
I’d love to update Tumbleweed but the download speed I’m getting to what I beleive is the United Stated official server is so slow it would literally take a year for me to the the +1.5GB I need to update.
I finally give up and control-c out after getting this error " Timeout exceeded when accessing 'http://download.opensuse.org/…"
How can I find a mirror that actually works?
Is there was to find out what server mirror brain is sending me to so I can blacklist it and force it to use a functional one?
Mirror brain doesn’t do tests of sanity and it doesn’t telly you here it’s sending you.
I went to the email list and was told it get a mirror out of the EU.
I went to factory and reported the broken state and they told me to have patience.
The Tumbleweed announcement was Jun 14, 2019, 11:02 AM. I That was over 12 hours ago. How patient should I have to be?
All mirrors should have the updates.
Seems everyone what to rename openSUSE but they don’t want to keep the infrastructure working for the end users to get the updates when they come out.
The people paid to keep the U.S. infrastructure working are not volunteers they are 3rd parties that don’t fix stuff that’s critical from what I understand.

The partial outage has been ongoing.
Right now the o.o server is trying to serve everyone.

Then go look at the list of Tumbleweed mirrors that serve the actual repos not just the ISOs. There are almost none.
So even if the mirrors had the updates there are really too few of them.

The reason is a new KDE version. Got 2288 new packages, but it did not work Yesterday. I guess that upgrading mirrors was taking all the bandwidth available.
I upgraded this morning - all is working fine. It took approx 2 hours to download 2780 packages in the 500KiBps which is still quite slow but better than yesterday. Interestingly it is the snapshot from the 12 June - yesterday was the 15 June and still the mirrors were not up-to-date.
Update at 2019-06-14 20:00 UTC failed. Retried at 2019-06-15 06:00 and failed again. Tried at 2019-06-15 20:00 and succeeded with very reasonable download speed. The massive update (6,600 packages) was due to glibc.
