Tumbleweed 12.2gm

Hi all, a question, i can add the tumbleweed repos to the new 12.2 GM, or need wait for new links for this release?.

Thanks.

Hi. Interesting question.

Assuming you haven’t already installed openSUSE 12.2 (because it’s not released yet) let’s work on the assumption you will install it fresh in about 2-3 days.

Here are the three steps for the early days of a new cycle, with a brand new DVD instation.

  1. You should install fresh 12.2 and get it stable, whatever, without the added Tumbleweed repos added.
  2. change your repos from the standard 12.2 repos to the Tumbleweed repos, as listed here: How to Upgrade openSUSE 12.x to Tumbleweed
  3. run the update command as a trial run with this command:
zypper ref; zypper dup -D

tthe -D makes it a dummy run, sio you can’t do any damage)

If you get a bunch of dependency issues from the step 3, report back. If you get no dependency issues from the step 3, run it for real with this command:

zypper ref; zypper dup

And you’ll be on your way.

I gather that when using a standard 12.1-based Tumbleweed installation, I’ll get 12.2 as a base system sooner or later automagically, as the OSS repo links to
Index of /distribution/openSUSE-current/repo/oss
?

From what I remember when 12.1 came out the Tumbleweed repo was emptied and slowly repopulated. I suppose it was because most packages, except for things like the kernel, were not upgrades compared to the latest stable opensuse release.

I suppose when 12.2 is released tomorrow all of those packages will be updated to at least the stable 12.2 version?

switching to tumbleweed breaking libreoffice in 12.2 … reverted back to default repositories for time being …

Quick question about tumbleweed, when will KDE SC 4.9 come to us?

12.2 (if you have a copy) will be in advance of the Tumbleweed repos for
some packages. I’d wait a few days. And I’d run “zypper dup -D” for a
dummy run before committing to changes.

If I had a brand new 12.2, I’d wait until 12.2 was released plus a
couple of days before running “zypper dup” for Tumbleweed, and first I’d
run the test command “zypper dup -D”.

when it gets into the Factory Repositories, at an unknown time in the
future.

  1. post
  2. edit
  3. post

works in a browser with a ten minute edit window–but in nntp it results
in double posting…
