trying to setting up a second monitor in OpenSuse 13.2

Hello,

I just bought a new monitor, dell p2417h, and I am trying to use it in my laptop which is a Lenovo L540 with the idea to set multiple monitors, but I am not able to do it.

So I want to do it by VGA connection.

I have read in some posts in internet about the command xrandr and kscreen. But I didn’t mange to set up anything. Also, I tried it in System Setiings>Monitor but I don’t see any option to do it there. Also in hardware information I tried to active the option Dual Monitor in somehow as I read in some post.

I have

Linux 3.16.7-35-desktop

openSUSE 13.2 (Harlequin) (x86_64)

kde 4.14.9
Lenovo L540.
some information about my video card:
Hardware Class: graphics card
Model: “Intel Haswell Integrated Graphics Controller”
Vendor: pci 0x8086 “Intel Corporation”
Device: pci 0x0416 “Haswell Integrated Graphics Controller”

I have installed xf86-video-vesa-drivers following some suggestions from internet.

the ouput of xrandr in my laptop is

xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 1920 x 1080, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 1920 x 1080
default connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 0mm x 0mm
1920x1080 77.00*
1920x1080_60.00 (0x1d8) 173.000MHz
h: width 1920 start 2048 end 2248 total 2576 skew 0 clock 67.16KHz
v: height 1080 start 1083 end 1088 total 1120 clock 59.96Hz

I have also seen that this error about gamma is quite common but I wasn’t even able to solve it.

Please, How I should proceed to install an external monitor? I would really appreciate any help to start with it.

Did you try Systemsettings - Display & Monitor?

You might try to force redetection/configuration in KDE by removing ~/.local/share/kscreen whilst being logged out.
