I’m new to OpenSuse and Tumbleweed and KDE 6 and I’ve just got it installed and seriously impressed by it’s quality but I can’t get Google Chrome running. I installed the rpm from googles website and updated it via yast software manager, opened it and it quit on me. I ran it from the terminal and I got a bunch of errors ending in “GPU process isn’t usable. Goodbye.” Then also tag not found and read out of range. Not sure how to approach this.
You could start with providing the full terminal output when starting Google Chrome from a terminal. Put the complete terminal output from an attempted Chrome start here in the forum via the preformatted text tags </>
Which desktop environment are you using?
Graphics hardware? Drivers?
Also show output from
zypper se -is chrome
Heres my google-chrome in terminal output first, then inxi -Fxxxz output, last one from zypper se -is chrome. Funny enough it hangs on graphics and takes a long time. inxi -G also takes a long time.

Never an issue here with GChrome - though I’ve not installed the rpm directly
But you did read the terminal output from the TO and tried to understand that he has already installed google-chrome-stable successfully?
It is only not starting because of an GPU issue…
Yes, installing the same way he did resulted in the same errors. Is XWayland supposed to be running if I am in X11? Can I disable it to test if it fixes this? Maybe I’m misunderstanding the output, I just came from Linux Mint Cinnamon and I’m unfamiliar with wayland stuff. Maybe it’s not actually running, just from my inxi -G output it says v: 21.1.12 with: Xwayland … not sure if that means its running at all or not, since I know my session type is X11. It also may be because of dual graphics but I didn’t have a problem in Mint Cinnamon.
According your output you are running on X11. This line only tells that you are using an actual X.org version which has already built in Xwayland support (this is the case since 2014).
Can you post the output from
glxinfo | grep 'OpenGL renderer string'
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 (HSW GT2)
That means your radeon card is not in use. I don’t know how good the Dell Bios is. But can you check if there is a possibility in the Bios to switch off the integrated Intel GPU and check if the radeon card gets picked up?
Maybe some other Radeon user out there which has experince with these cards. I’m a happy Nvidia user…it’s decades ago that i had a ATI card…
I just attempted to load it via flatpak and I got different errors now. Also the radeon gpu should never be used outside of games that request it afaik. It was never used in Windows or Linux Mint for chrome.
Edit, I’m an idiot and tried to run it as root. The flatpak version is running now. I don’t know why the rpm wouldn’t work though still. I did restart once between running the flatpak and running the rpm… I may try to reinstall the rpm just to see if the error still exists but it is running from flatpak now.
