Just as the post title is. i cant figure out what to do. i have openSUSE 11.3 as my primary OS. and i want to be able to dual boot windows vista. from what i read i would have to reinstall the 11.3 to set up to dual boot. i may have that wrong. but can someone help me out so that i can do the dual boot and do it so i dont lose anything saved on my comp?
Normally, you must install Windows first and then if you install openSUSE second, it will pick up on and add Windows as a booting option to your grub menu.lst file. It can be problematic to install Windows after the fact unless you install it to a second hard drive as it wants to be first.; FIrst, you got to make some room for Windows. Where were you thinking of installing it? Any reason to go with Vista as Windows 7 is a lot better OS to use?
Thank You,
You can install Windows on any partition which is primary afaik… After you install Windows, it would overwrite the MBR and hence you would not have the option to boot into openSUSE… You would need some linux boot cd or EasyBCD to be able to boot into linux…
If you use EasyBCD, you can set up options in the windows boot loader for openSUSE if you’d like to keep the windows boot loader… If you just wanna make GRUB as your primary boot loader, then temporarily set up an entry in EasyBCD for booting into openSUSE and reinstall GRUB on MBR from there… The same could also be done without easyBCD if you have some linux boot CD or USB stick…
