Posting here because it seems likely that people in this sub-forum are more likely to have relevant ideas and experience.
I’ve used Linux since the mid-90s and have built and installed my fair share of software from source code.
I personally use LilyPond for music scores, but I’ve got mates who use MuseScore. The new v3.0+ MuseScore
is not available for OpenSuse 42.3 (which I’m using because Leap 15 had install problems)
The real problem is that MuseScore 3.0+ files are not open-able with MuseScore 2.2 (default on 42.3)
So, just download the source and build it, right?
Well, no, since it turns out that I also need QT 5.9+ and that isn’t available either – and my google-fu is striking
out when I try to find the source (which may not work with my current KDE in any case)
I’m frustrated with this mess, and I’m hoping for some useful thoughts.
If Leap 15 has been significantly updated/modified I may give it another try, but with a RAID5/ext4 /home I’m
inclined to be cautious
Option 1
Install virtualization like Viirtualbox, create a LEAP 15 Guest and install Musescore 3.04 into it.
Option 2
Install the AppImage version of MuseScore, it likely will have all its dependencies packed up in its own container/image. Should not have a problem running 3.04 on your LEAP 42.3 https://musescore.org/en/download
Musescore3 need QT5.9 and thats for Leap 42.3 only in the Repo I posted the URL.
That is also the reason, I disabled the build in my Repo for Leap 42.3 because of getting more and more errors with my onw build of these Requires.
so:
Leap 15.0
or
flatpack
or
those QT5 and KF5 Repos
or
Virtualisation
