I ran lspci on a linux kernel version “2.6.16.13-4-default”.
Again, what is it that you booted with to run the lspci and uname commands?
And when you say that you “loaded” other linux operating system, do you mean that you actually installed to disk those OS’s - or were you just using a Live-CD?
Also, try these Boot Options on the menu:
vga=normal ide=nodma pci=nomsi
To an earlier question: I haven’t been able to find anything re not being able to install with your 855GM chipset. A lot of issues with the video, however. What is the machine, make and model?
Oh sorry, I was using suse 10.1. I guess I need to explain a little more.
I have I think five or six of these machines. They were scrapped from one of our products at work and I use two them as servers because they consume only 20W of power.
They replaced a singe machine running NT 4.0 which was running flawlessly for over 9 years. Time to change and I went from a single cpu that consumed 130 watts to two separate and way faster machines that consume a total of 93 watts.
I was learning linux at the time and tried a few distro’s and found suse to be the easiest to configure.
I remember having the exact same problem, however I do not remember how I finally got it installed and did not documented it (or at least not well enough to find it) but somehow installed it on my two servers.
So, I want to install or upgrade to 11.0 and tried installing on another machine.
So, to answer your second question, yes these were full installs, in fact I have one system I use as a general computer and it has an up to date ubuntu on it.
Another I have running as my firewall. Initially it was Astaro but was way too slow so now it run Smoothwall.
As I mentioned earlier, over the years, I have fully installed Debian, Fedora, Mandriva and others on these machines.
All these machines are identical to one another.
The server simply provides storage, the backup does backups, print server, dokuwiki and of course the smoothie machine, all running 24/7 flawlessly.
So, the problem is figuring out how to install 11.0 on a evaluation machine. I have searched the web hoping to find out how I did it the first time but with no luck.
As for trying the boot options, next time I am in the basement (where the servers are) I will try it.
I tried:
linux vga=normal ide=nodma pci=nomsi
with no change, it still rebooted?
The machine information is found at:
On this page is a specification in pdf format.
I have emailed Advantech and to my surprise they are replying back to me.
They did tell me that they have not tried the Suse distro yet.
Also, they asked if I can try booting from a DVD plugged directly into the hard drive interface.
These custom boards to not have a secondary IDE port only the primary which a notebook computer drive connects directly to.
However, Smoothwall has this port as the Advantech board is plugged into a standard backplane board not our company proprietary board.
I connected a DVD drive to the Smoothwall and got the same results.
So I think this tells me it is not a USB problem?
