trouble with Samsung 712n monitor

I’m new to linux, want to install openSuse 11.0 on my primary desktop. The live cd version of openSuse has incorrect resolution (I can’t get to the bottom of the screen). I have checked monitor specs and used sax2 to try to tweak settings. Also edited xorg.conf to force autodetect. None of these approaches have worked.

Any suggestions?

my hardware:
HP Pavilion Slimline, Athlon 64 X2
nVidia geForce 6150 SE chipset

I’m using the 32 bit version…

Try Yast - Hardware - Monitor

use generic LCD–
with your resolution and refresh rate

I used Samsung lcd monitor and sax cannot detect the monitor model.
I used the monitor’s utility disk that came with it and suse detects it and install teh correct resolution.

Try your utilitiy disk if you have, there is an option for this in yast2- hardware-graphic cards and monitor. If you dont have the disk download it and burn to cd.

Thanks.
I spent a lot of time configuring using sax2 and the problem is not fixed by adjusting the resolution.
I don’t have the utility disk for the monitor, but will try that. I swapped the samsung with a sony monitor, and the sony is recognized without problem. Meanwhile, xubuntu (running on my other machine) seems to have no problem with the samsung monitor.
