Hello, I’m very new to this. I have a new Windows XP system. Boot drive is 500gb. I have an additional two hard drives setup as RAID 1 (mirror) they are 1 TB each. I’m installing from store bought 11.1 dvd. The issue I don’t understand is, partitioning. The installation is suggesting to shrink my RAID drive to only 360GB and using 640GB. I keep trying to change the partition to use the 500GB with Windows, but it will not accept the change. It will only use the entire 500gb or the RAID.
During install try the most right option when presented with the ‘suggested partitions’ screen instead of the left.
Think it’s labeled “Create partitions”, something like that anyways, as I found the name to be missleading. It doesn’t like you might think going by the name instantly create partitions but instead it allows you to set it up the way you specify it to.
Without making suggestions.
You’ll most like want to create 3 extra partitions on the 500GB drive.
ext3, 10-15GB, mount as ‘/’
ext3, 2-400GB mount as ‘/home’
swap, 1-4GB mount as ‘swap’
