Trouble with Application Browser in Gnome

Gosh, I’ve written to every forum I could think of to get my problem resolved and nobody, nowhere seems to know what to do.

My Application Browser in Gnome does not list the descriptions under the Icons. So if I’m looking for some program to start, I have to go through each Icon until I find the program I’m looking for. Some Icons are a simple hit or miss…This is a serious problem. Surely others have run into this and resolved it. Please help me.

Hi
So have you looked in the Control Center -> Apperance Preferences ->
Interface Tab and checked there. It almost sounds like it’s configured
itself with a font that doesn’t exist or it’s set to white.

What happens if you create a test user and login, do you have the same
problem?

Hi again…
Also if you set the menu back to the ‘classic’ right click on the
‘Computer’ icon and select remove from panel (don’t worry it’s easy to
get back. ) Logout/back in again. Right click on panel →
add to panel scroll down list and select ‘Traditional Main Menu’ do you
still have the problem?

To set it back to the ‘Computer’ type menu, delete the classic one and
add as above except its called ‘Main Menu’

Thanks for your reply…

It turns out that it is caused by one of the games I installed or that the Application Browser cannot handle the shear number of games that I had installed.

I found this out by literally removing all the games from my computer and I know the game is somewhere after the “L’s”.

Currently, I am reinstalling all the games again until I find the culprit. Once I find it, I will be posting my results.

Also thanks again for your input on getting back the traditional menu. I spent hours trying to figure that one out. I know that I had done it before but for the life of me I couldn’t remember what I did.

Okay… For those that get into the same problem…I found that a program called ‘pytraffic’ is what caused all of the descriptions in my Application Browser to vanish.

It’s a game.

I’m using Suse11 x86_64 with an Nvidia FX5500 w/256mem video card.

use the mouse draw the icon directly to the recycle bin.
