hi guys i am new to open suse and have been trying to install 13.2 onto my desktop but unfortunately it wont install…i have loaded it up onto my laptop without any problems but on the desktop it just doesn’t do anything…i have downloaded it from multiple mirrors and torrents and even tried different discs but still doesn’t work… this is what i seem to keep getting some time i get to the three green dot before the installation set up but no further than that but only on my desktop thats whats puzzling me
im not using a video card, i am running straight off the chipset on the motherboard. I have tried gong through text mode and no ACIP but nothing i will try recovery just now.
May have a problem. If you look at the vendors website, they say they support Windows and at the very very bottom in bright red, they say you may need special drivers. Here’s the link:
I have a 78LMT-S2P but I installed a 6 core AMD (no GPU) and added a NVIDIA card ( I never cared too much for AMD GPUs) and I have not had any trouble but have not moved to 13.2 yet.
In any case you probably need the AMD propritary driver.
I love that the note at the bottom says to get the drivers but does not mention what drivers LOL Video, sound, USB???
It works fine with all other distros even had suse 13.1 installed without any issues. It only seems to be 13.2 that is having issues with it. Im currently running manjaro mate nit had a problem intalled straight away.
I have now done a full installation of open suse 13.2 on my laptop without any glitches but my desktop just doesnt want to install it I have tried everything. Any help would be very appreciated.
Press e find line starts with linux go to the end (it is long and wraps) add a space and nomodeset. press F10 to continue boot. This will force the load generic video drivers
Note that adding a NVIDIA card will not work at all unless you also turn off the AMD GPU in the BIOS. Can’t have both, at least not with out some serious acrobatics
I have it installed now and running fine with all updates done. I installed it using 13.2 tumbleweed live kde. Would u be able to tell me plz how to add the pacman repository as when I go into community repository its not there.
Anyone else having issues with installation should maybe try this method
Well i have it installed using the tumble weed version and im experiencing a slight problem. Vlc isnt working at all, i have changed the repositories from the original to the tumble weed so not sure if i need any other codecs, i have included a picture of the repositories im using
Well, the same general principle as for any openSUSE release applies to Tumbleweed as well: NEVER mix the VLC and the Packman repo.
So remove the videolan.org repo (#3).
I would also suggest to raise the priority (i.e. lower the priority number) for Packman, so the packages from there will get preferred.
Then run “sudo zypper dup”. This should fix your problem, if it is caused by package inconsistencies.
If that doesn’t help, run “vlc” in a terminal window and post the output.
vlc VLC media player 2.1.5 Rincewind (revision 2.1.4-49-gdab6cb5) [0x9f30b8] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use ‘cvlc’ to use vlc without interface.
Sorry dont know how to post the output so just copied the text.
I run the “sudo zypper dup” and it said nothing to do.
I am really sorry for the hassle but i think if i dont get it sorted soon i am going to install the normal 13.2 rather than the tumble weed one. Thanks
I think im missing some codecs as I have just installed the normal 13.2 now as I thought maybe it was tumbleweed that was causing the issue but im having the same issue again.
