Trouble opening .zip files

I’m a newbie, and I can’t seem to open up any .zip file with wine. Can someone help me?

The problem is that when I download applications, they appear as a read-only file. I don’t know what to do! Someone please help!

Why would you use wine to open zips???

  1. did you install a Windows version of a zip utility?
  2. there are lots of zip utilities for Linux look in your menu

You need to tell use more about the application problem. Are you talking about windows apps or Linux apps??? Where are you getting these apps from?

New (downloaded) files to Linux are, as you discovered read only (not executable).

You can chmod 755, or newbies are probably going to be more comfortable using Dolphin, rt-click on your new file, select “Properties” > Click on the “Permissions” tab, check “is executable” and then OK.

Otherwise, to simply extract a zip file you can use ARK or unzip.

Wine? Wine is not an archive tool.
