I ran “pavucontrol”, and it shows “GM204 High Definition Audio Controller Digital Surround 5.1 (HDMI)”.
The “Port” option is shown as “HDMI / DisplayPort (unplugged)” and I cannot get sound out. HDMI is not unplugged, however, as I am viewing my laptop screen duplicated on my HD TV screen via the HDMI connection (through a Yamaha AX-V575 receiver).
As that instruction suggests, I have run: “/usr/sbin-alsa-info.sh” as a normal user.
However, I get the response “bash: /usr/sbin-alsa-info.sh: No such file or directory”.
I also ran this with “sudo” and got a similar result, so it appears that this is not installed.
I ran “sudo head -n 1 /proc/asound/card0/codec*” and got the following:
Codec: Realtek ALC892
Then I ran “sudo vi /usr/src/linux-4.4.36-8/Documentation/sound/alsa/ALSA-Configuration.txt”,
and I searched for “ALC892”, but got “E486: Pattern not found: ALC892”.
Yes, I have checked the volume and whether it is muted. The laptop speakers work OK, and I have also set up Bluetooth access to a Bose Mini II SoundLink unit, but I have not been able to get the HDMI output to my 5.1 home theater system speakers working.
Sorry to be a bearer of bad news but, when I Googled ‘GM204 High Definition Audio Controller Digital Surround’, it came up with several examples of other people who have had problems with this device and, as far as I can see, no solutions.
Hi,
I experienced this problem on an LG TV with 3 HDMI ports.
Only one out of three ports was working. I tried to match your
/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh
and seems to me that it is the same. The /usr/sbin/alsa/alsa-info.sh
is too long for me to dissect because I am still recovering from retinal reattachment
so I am having trouble reading properly. Maybe wait for oldcpu to see your post for
proper advice.
On a side you might try to install the xfce mixer it is an easy to use app.
Try to check the IEC958 (HDA NVidia (Alsa mixer) if it is enabled.
