Tried to Install OpenSuse 11.3 now computer wont boot at all

I have a eMachine EL1210-09 and Tried to install OpenSuse 11.3 after about 7hrs system was just hanging so i shutdown and then computer no waont even boot. Monitor acts like its not plugged in and cant even get computer to recognize mouse, keyboard any help would be appreciated…DA078L Boxer 07160-1 is the MOBO number

What about the cd/dvd you used to install openSUSE, does that boot up?

nope…im starting to think mobo is fried…

Well the openSUSE install doesn’t do Mobo frying.

FYI, it takes about 20 minutes for the install of openSUSE.

What about the BIOS, can you get in to it?

nope…cant get it do do anything…disconnected everything i even switched hard drives and nothing
monitor stays in sleep mode and keybaord and mouse are usless…

Doesn’t sound good.

Try powering down - disconnect from the power supply
Open the PC and remove the Mobo battery
You might want to check re-set BIOS on your Mobo with a google search.

cant even get it too boot…taken battery out disconnected ps and still nothing

I don’t really have any more suggestions. Individual components can be removed and tested, other than that it sure looks like a dead motherboard.

the machine comes with a one year warranty on parts so maybe these
forks can help: http://emachines-us.custhelp.com/

Looks like problem solved…one thing i had not done was remove RAM seems that my machine didnt like the OCZ PC6400 DDR2 1GB stick once i took that out…booted fine…but think im staying away from open suse…dont feel like wasting 7hr again for linuz…may consider another distro…OpenSuse 11.3 is what i tried installing…Thanks for all the suggestions though

Chris

cool! you have a hardware problem and call installing openSUSE a waste
of time…

logical, not.

i do hope you find something that will work for you…there are plenty
of distros to choose from…

if you go though all of them and they don’t work with mismatched
either, come back here and let us see if we can help you get it
working with good RAM and good install media…

Probably it took 7 hours because you had a bad memory stick.

Ok, what else did you do to the poor E-machine?

Don’t mix the OCZ memory with the memory already in the E-machine. They don’t like that. Either replace all of the RAM with new compatible sticks or leave it. Have a look at the crucial website. They got a memory finder and will give you compatible sticks for your system. Mind you, compatible doesn’t always mean plug-and-play. I order most of my RAM off them and sometimes I had to manually setup the RAM timings, voltages and stuff. No big deal but can lead to some od problems like what you were discribing.

Please give OpenSUSE a try when you are done trying other distro’s. You’ll find it’s a great distro and the community is so friendly (be it sometimes a bit sarcastic :)).
