'Trashes' in Yast after upgrade to 13.2

Hi,
I did upgrade from 12.2 to 13.2 - it went well and system works well too.
But I have strange problem in Yast.
Every time I run Software Mangement from Yast, it says this:

YaST2 conflicts list - generated 2014-11-08 14:40:39

nothing provides appdata(hugin.appdata.xml) needed by application:hugin-.noarch

nothing provides appdata(firefox.appdata.xml) needed by application:Firefox-.noarch

 ] deinstallation of application:Firefox-.noarch
] break application:Firefox-.noarch by ignoring some of its dependencies

YaST2 conflicts list END

Checking deinstallation box does nothing.
I tried multiple times to remove, install, reinstall those packages to no avail.
I tried to do it via zypper as well - and nothing.

And one more thing - every time I use Software Manager it automatically checks Apper and PackageKit (4 packages altogether) even if I willingly removed them before.
I do not want apper, so why Yast always suggests to install it (them)?

Are you able to help?
greetings

I don’t have Hugin so I cant help there, but for the others

$:>locate thunderbird.appdata.xml
/usr/share/appdata/thunderbird.appdata.xml
$:>rpm -qf /usr/share/appdata/thunderbird.appdata.xml
MozillaThunderbird-31.2.0-1.1.x86_64
$:>locate firefox.appdata.xml
/usr/share/appdata/firefox.appdata.xml
$:>rpm -qf /usr/share/appdata/firefox.appdata.xml
MozillaFirefox-33.0-2.1.x86_64

Perhaps the reinstallation of thunderbird and firefox will help.

I said I did it couple times - via YaST and zypper. It does not solve it.

thanks

For the software installation, this is a bug:
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=902394

You can prevent Yast from installing already deleted packages by going into Yast2, under option select ‘do not install packages recommended by already installed packages’ (might be different wording)

Shall I wait then until developers fix this bug and make update?

thanks

Jumping from 12.2 to 13.2 is a huge leap. It is not really recommended to move more then one version at a time. It is a surprise that it runs at all :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi!

[off]
I decided to pick up active forum using. This is my 3rd post, the previous ones were 1.5 years earlier. That’s when I started using Linux with openSUSE (then 12.3), and I haven’t switched since - or felt that it was a wrong choice, even though in the EEngineering and CompSci dorm where I lived, nobody I closely know used Geecko. Those poor Win, Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, etc. guys. lol!. So thanks for this wonderful distro, I rarely had openSUSE specific problems as I can remember, and even if I did, I most probably found the solution here, when i didn’t manage to find it myself. So thanks for the community too!
[/off]

Until last night, I used 13.1. Then I did a live upgrade with zypper ( this guide helped of course: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade )
The good news is, as far as I tested that it runs smoother - Yeeeeaaaaaay.

I little downside: I have the same problem as above - well, almost:
When I use zypper ve then it reports the same missing appdata.xml problem, only with firefox. The solutions are to uninstall, or break firefox, but both does exactly nothing, and it happens every time I verify dependencies manually. I also tried reinstalling it. Another funny thing: when I uninstall Firefox, zypper installs Thunderbird, and vica-versa. I know they are recommended most likely for each other, but why install them during uninstall? So it’s not a specific problem for upgrading from x<13.1

Do you have libzypp-plugin-appdata installed? Your errors are related to the “appdata”.
Try to remove it if yes. I don’t have it on any of my 13.2 systems and don’t see such a problem.

According to the package description, this only makes sense with gnome-software at the moment anyway.

# zypper info libzypp-plugin-appdata
...
Summary: Extend libzypp to handle AppStream metadata
Description:
This plugin extends libzypp to install AppStream metadata, as extracted from the
repository metadata, onto the file system in order to be picked up by software centers.

At this moment, gnome-software is the only known implementation making use of
  it.

PS: your problem looks like this:
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=905558

I.e. it’s caused by missing/incorrect appdata in the updates repo.
Should be fixed whenever those packages get updated again at least.

Choose to ignore the dependencies for now.

Btw, I do see that errors here as well for Firefox and freeciv when running “zypper ve”. But not for hugin. Where did you install that from?

Or mark them taboo or similar wording.

But you are not GazetaCypr, the OP, but Samonitari. You answered a
question that was asked of him, not of you, so that we now don’t know
whom we are responding to.

It is better to create your own new thread to avoid confusion.

Just to confirm the problem of GazetaCypr:

I did a clean (no upgrade, no existing home, …) install of openSUSE 13.2 on two of my systems using http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/13.2/iso/openSUSE-13.2-DVD-x86_64.iso. Both systems use (only) KDE 4.14.3 as desktop environment.

When i open “YaST2 -> Softwaremanagement” i get

Doing zypper ve delivers:

Choosing “Deinstallation” (with YaST or zypper) does not do any thing. libzypp-plugin-appdata is not installed.

Unreadable, sorry. Please use English in your commands.

When the system language is not English, you should do, in order to post
here, like this:

minas-tirith:~ # LANG=C zypper lr --details
....

or this:

minas-tirith:~ # LANG=en_US.UTF-8 zypper info kvm
Loading repository data...
Warning: Repository 'openSUSE-11.4-Update' appears to outdated. Consider
using a different mirror or server.
Reading installed packages...

That way we can all read it, regardless of local languages of sender and
reader. It is not a permanent change, it only applies to one command.

So here we go again …

Just to confirm the problem of GazetaCypr:

. . .

Choosing “deinstallation” (with YaST or zypper) does not do any thing. “libzypp-plugin-appdata” is not installed.

Best regards

susejunky

Yes, this is a bug in libzypp. Just choose “ignore” for now.
That’s being worked on.

And it is a bug in some packages.

No need to report it for Firefox or Thunderbird any more, that’s already tracked here, as already mentioned in this thread:
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=905558

For other packages, please file a bug report, or mention it in the one above.

For hugin, I still don’t see that here, and I have hugin installed.

Hello wolfie323,

thank you very much for your reply to my post.

Is there a bugreport in bugzilla which i could use to monitor the current status of this bug in libzypp?

I didn’t install “hugin” on purpose. Probably it got pulled in by “digikam”. In YaST i saw that my version of “hugin” comes out of this repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/graphics/openSUSE_13.2/ (which i use to get the latest version of “sane”). Probably that’s the reason why my installation behaves different to yours.

Best regards

susejunky

Well, I’m not aware of any other than the one I linked to.

Actually it seems to be a bug in those affected packages rather IIUIC.

I didn’t install “hugin” on purpose. Probably it got pulled in by “digikam”. Probably.
I have the version from the main OSS repo installed. That one should be ok, so maybe switch to that.
You might want to file a bug report against the hugin package though.

Same here,
fresh install, added main repos as Packman and NVidia and got the same “trashes”. I have fresh installed opensuse 13.2 in three notebooks, reproducing in all of them this issue.
Initially just with Firefox and Thunderbird. I have tried removing these applications from the mozilla’s community repo and re-installing if from the main general repo with no success.
Recently, another appication joined the problem; now also Audacity. :frowning:

here is my zypper ve output:

Problem: nothing provides appdata(audacity.appdata.xml) needed by application:Audacity-.noarch
Problem: nothing provides appdata(firefox.appdata.xml) needed by application:Firefox-.noarch
Problem: nothing provides appdata(thunderbird.appdata.xml) needed by application:Thunderbird-.noarch

When opening Yast UOL, I have to choose among the proposed options for resolution “deinstallation of Application: xxxxxx-.noarch” for each case. It let me continue but it does no changes (installation tab is empty). Even a “Dependencies check now” shows everything being fine. So no real harm except the unpolished look.

AMD-box
OpenSuSE13.2_x64
Linux 3.16.7-13-desktop
KDE 4.14.6

  1. did you update before you started to add stuff??

  2. show us the repos zypper lr -d

Please use code tags for machine output (#) in editor window

Well, I see those problems in “zypper ve” too (also for audacity), but I don’t get any complaints from YaST and never did.
I have no idea what option (or whatever) causes YaST to show the conflict dialog, as I never was able to reproduce this… (there have been other threads about this issue too)

Maybe you should file another bug report against YaST too?
Might at least give some information how to workaround it.
