Transfer pictures from cell phone to hard drive

I hooked up my cell phone to transfer pictures via a USB cable to my hard drive.

It looked like the o.s. did not detect it.

Any prompt on your phone prompting how to interact w/the USB cable? On my
Atrix (Android 2.1 or something) I am prompted on the phone about being
either a USB hard drive or something else. Until I choose the USB Hard
Drive option nothing shows up in openSUSE.

Good luck.

Andy, it is a good idea to tell us make and model of the phone. When it is attached via USB, run the following command

Post the output here. That may help others assist you further.

It is working. I found DigiCam and it setup directory for the pictures. etc.

And I put it on the desktop.

If I can get my Linux modem to dial a number, I will post the specifics(Make, model etc.) of it so others can benefit from hardware that works with 2 operating systems.

You are mixing threads! This one is about your phone and uploading pictures. Keep your modem discussion in the appropriate thread. Thank you!

+1 here.

Andy, please handle one problem at the time. ATM you’re working on various issues, mentioning other issues in different threads. This is very confusing and there’s a fair chance that you’ll break things by creating a situation where you’re in the middle of solving different problems at the same time. F.e. first get the modem working, leave the rest. When that’s done, on to the next thing. That way your chances of understanding what you’re doing are much higher.

I am sorry, I make mistakes. Are you perfect ?

It very confusing when people use shortened phrases I do not know such as ATM.

I also don’t understand when help often comes in single sentences.

Much of the time those single sentences do NOT contain enough information for me (as a semi-beginner) to answer or complete the task.

I have only been using OpenSuse for about a month.

I would say that about 35% of the solutions involve a great deal of typing at the command line.

Not so with other major operating systems.

I started in this forum with a wheelbarrow of good will.

That wheelbarrow is almost empty.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

I’m not quite sure how prophetic words of comfort from God to Israelites captive in Babylon have any relation to your issue.

For sure, starting out in Linux needs some work. Most of us forget how traumatic it was when we first put hand to a Windows PC.

I could say…Have faith in us
But it can be hard earned here.
Honestly, we really will try and help.

To be honest, I think you are making excuses for unhelpful behavior.

I do not think of the operating system OpenSuse as traumatic at all.

I am sorry that you have been traumatized by Windows.

I think pride may be present to a good degree in these forums.

Or maybe a lack of common courtesy ?

Bible verse was a postscript to my posting and relates to my faith in God and confidence that He will comfort and deliver me from adversity.

OK Andy. I’m not sure what help you now need?
Regarding the Phone, you earlier said:

It is working. I found DigiCam and it setup directory for the pictures. etc.
So that is OK is it?

Regarding the modem: Did you start another thread ?

Yes, he has a thread for the modem open here:

and hasn’t yet replied to my last post there.
