Traceroute works, connection with local network too, but not with internet

When entering IP in URL bar in Firefox it shows “The connection has timed out, The server at 35.1.1.48 is taking too long to respond.” after like a minute. When entering translated server names “Server not found, Firefox can’t find the server at www.google.com” after like a minute.

It doesn’t work but I left it running for a few hours and there was a short window when it worked.

OpenSUSE (SLES 10) is running on a virtual machine VMware Workstation 12 Player, used as a Teradata server. It has static adress 192.168.1.100. I can connect to my internal network, create tables and insert data and I see in virtual machine that data in the database. But I need the connection with external network.

I tried to install mtr to diagnose the network connection but I don’t know how to do it. Zypper install does not detect the .rpm packets which I found on the host machine and copied on guest. Double clicking on the file gives “ZMD does not appear to be running” error. I enabled novell-zmd but its still doesn’t work (i rebooted the machine too). It’s not shown in the picture below, but running /sbin/service novell-zmd status shows “dead”, i can restart it and it’s still dead.

Can there be some settings in VMWare or in the router that may block openSUSE from external network?

edit: The mtr .rpm packets I downloaded from here http://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=mtr may be incompatible with my system. First is for Mageia Cauldron and second for OpenSuSE 11.4. I have SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10. So that may be why packages are not found by zypper.

After reading through a considerable part of your post I reached

Now this is impossible. It is either openSUSE or SLES.
And these are the openSUSE forums, not the SUSE LInux Enterprise forums. So after you have decided what you are running, you may be better off asking at

(same username/password as here).
