Touchpad configuration

There is a configuration of touchpad window in openSuse 11.3 in SYSTEM SETTINGS -> INPUT DEVICES. Now I installed openSuse 11.2 because in 11.3 the pen of my Tablet Pc doesn’t work fine, but there isn’t the Touchpad section in SYSTEM SETTINGS -> INPUT DEVICES , why?

Probably because openSUSE is using an an earlier version of KDE4. Not configurable with ‘synclient’? You could update KDE4 I guess.

Synaptics Multi-Touch

Thanks, I solved installing synaptiks
But if I apply a modify, it shows an error notify…but in real the modify is applied correctly…

wait a second: you went from 11.3 to 11.2 because the older version
works, right?

so, if it works do NOT fix it!

just wait patiently until someone somewhere fixes the bug you filed
and works it into a soon to be released update to 11.3–then you will
have a working tablet and a yast touchpad section with system
settings for input devices…

you did file a bug didn’t you?
what is its number?

Hi DenverD. The problem of touchpad is solved now and the pen works on openSuse 11.2. I don’t know the reason because the pen on openSuse 11.3 doesn’t work. I didn’t use Sax2 for configuring it in openSuse 11.2. Installing wacom-default kernel it was enough…

did you file a bug against 11.3?

openSuse 11.2 works all now, instead the pen doesn’t work in 11.3(only this problem), but you already know my problem…

either you are not listening or you don’t yet understand how Free and
Open Source Software (FOSS) works:

i know you are on 11.2 now, and it works for your tablet…

and, i know you hope that someday you can move to 11.3 or 11.4, right?
(you do know 11.2 goes non-supported on May 12th 2011, right?) :expressionless:

and, i know that the bug that keeps you from using 11.3 today MUST be
reported by someone, or it may never get fixed… <:-(

so, your choices are:

  1. to stay on 11.2 forever :frowning:

  2. hope someone else has the exact same problem, logs a bug report,
    and it gets fixed :frowning:

  3. plan to buy a machine compatible with the new OS when 11.2 goes
    non-supported

  4. log the bug yourself

see, everyone says Linux is FREE, and it is…but, the whole FOSS
system only works because everyone works together…including the
folks who got the free software who need to be willing to take the
time to help the hackers fix the code by filing bug reports…

in a sense, you “pay for” your free software by contributing to open
source software…lots of ways to contribute, one is by helping FOSS
get better and better…

now, let me ask one last time: did you file a bug against 11.3?

if you didn’t, then that is ok with me but i won’t be helping you any
more…because i volunteer my time here to help folks…that is how i
“pay for” my free software…and i wanna pay by helping folks who also
want, and do, help…

now, all that said: the first step of filing a bug report is looking
to see if it is already filed…it may be and if so all you need to
do is add a comment that you are also having the problem on your
specific make/model of hardware…you can imagine that a bug with the
comments of 1000 users having the problem might get fixed before a bug
only affecting ONE person…right?

Have a lot of fun!

You are right, so I added a comment. I thought it is more difficult because my english isn’t good and also I’m not an expert user. I’ll wait an answer…

Thanks a lot DenverD, today you earned an extra-pay…rotfl!

PS: I have just spoken about my english…:stuck_out_tongue:

you don’t have to be an expert to contribute…

and, your english is GREAT!! (anyway, the guy/gal who looks at the bug
might have worse english than you do, but you can maybe both use
another with ease…)

THANKS for contributing to open source!!
