Touchpad and trackpoint not detected

Hi!
I am using Opensuse Tumbleweed with my PC, and my touchpad does not work out of the box. My PC is a Lenovo Thinkpad A275. I know the touchpad and the trackpoint works, because in Windows it worked. (I have since then reinstalled the PC to Tumbleweed).

Here is my specs:

Like I said, the touchpad is not detected nor working. How do I resolve this issue?

Here is the output of Xinput:

⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]

UPDATE: So I managed to find a driver that made the driver work, at least giving basic functionality.
I had to edit /etc/default/grub and add this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“psmouse.proto=bare pci=nocci=nocrs”
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=“i8042.reset i8042.nomux i8042.nopnp i8042.noloop”
and then run: sudo grub2-mkconfi

But now my problem is that I cannot scroll with the touchpad or press down on it (clicky touchpad) and make it click, I can only use the touch to click. Does anybody know a better driver? The trackpoint on the other hand works as it should.

What model is your touchpad? Can you show the return of

sudo hwinfo --mouse
?

I might have missed that info on your description above but are you using Wayland or X11 as compositor?

I am using X11 as compositor. The output of sudo hwinfo --mouse is showing:

How can I look up the model of the touchpad?

For me it shows under “Model” in your printout, where it says “PS/2 Generic Mouse” for you.

According to the Lenovo homepage you should need a synaptics driver (as in almost all newer laptops source: laptops and netbooks :: thinkpad a series laptops :: thinkpad a275 type 20kc 20kd - Lenovo Support US ).

Can you check if the package xf86-input-synaptics is installed on your ststem and install it and reboot if not?

That package is already installed, thatt was one of the first things I checked when I was looking around on the web for a solution.

To show that the package is installed, I will show you the output of “sudo zypper install xf86-input-synaptics” (and the pc has been rebooted since):
Loading repository data…
Reading installed packages…
‘xf86-input-synaptics’ is already installed.
No update candidate for ‘xf86-input-synaptics-1.9.2-1.5.x86_64’. The highest available version is already installed.
Resolving package dependencies…
Nothing to do.

I see, is it an older install? I thought that nowadays touchpad are handled by libinput as xf86-input-synaptics is no longer in development. So technically I wanted to see if your touchpad works with this driver instead of libinput.

I didn’t run into touchpad issues with openSUSE (Gnome, Wayland) so far that’s why I didn’t look into it and at this moment I don’t have my laptop at hand. So, I can’t check but I think it should be handled by libinput.

For now I would recommend you to check on this Arch-wiki pages (as I didn’t find an equivalent for openSUSE):

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Touchpad_Synaptics

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Libinput

So at least for Arch it seems like libinput and for X11 xf86-input-libinput is in use by default.

From my perspective it would be good to switch to libinput with xf86-input-libinput and see if it works, without using (deinstalling) xf86-input-synaptics.

Taking into consideration that xf86-input-synaptics is not in development anymore that would dbe my preferred solution anyways.

This installation of Opensuse is only about a month old or so. I have not used this system very much. I wanted to try something different other than Linux mint.

I have also tried xf86-input-libinput and the same result as the synaptics package. It only worked when I messed around with the GRUB settings.

I guess by messing around with GRUB you mean loading the respective kernel modules?

Did you try and configure the touchpad as described in the first arch-wiki page? Either by config file or with a GUI of the DE you use?

How did you install it? Did you install X11 and the DE right away or after the installation of the OS?

Hi!
I’m sorry for the lack of response these couple of days, I’ve been busy with other things, but I will try and check this out later this week. The only thing I can answer straight away is that I installed X11 straight away (Currently running XFCE)
