Touchpad and Bluetooth Mouse

Hey guys - first time I’ve ever posted here and first time Linux user, so bear with me please.

Its about time I put my tail between my legs - I tried doing this on my own but I’m not smart enough to. I’ve read through the forums about problems similar to mine, tried the ideas give, but nothing remedies my problems.

The first problem is that my touchpad is either unresponsive, or gets way over reactive - randomly darting across the screen clicking things it shouldn’t. I tried disabling the touchpad feature, but to no avail. Same problem just like before. It also doesn’t help not knowing the shortcut keys or any linux lingo, it took me awhile to find how to disable the touchpad. So my first question is this: how do I fix my touchpad and make it functional, if not fully functional? (besides booting in failsafe mode, but still, its nowhere close to perfect there).

The second problem is with my bluetooth mouse. openSUSE kinda notices it, but doesn’t let it do anything. In failsafe mode, i was able to detect it, but it couldn’t connect to it without giving me some error. Invaild something, I don’t remember. Is there a way I can fix this problem and get my mouse to work? Its a Dell Bluetooth mouse, if that matters.

I really want to use Linux, specifically openSUSE - I’ve heard so many good things about it. I’m very new at linux, so if you explain something, could you do so in detail?

Thanks for everything.

I can’t really say why you mouse is not working properly. All you can do is try configuring it, or even perhaps try a different kernel to see if it works better then.

When you activate bluetooth on your laptop you should see the icon appear in the tray. You can configure from there. You should have a shortcut to start bluetooth, mine is Fn+F5

Alright, I’ll try messing around with it. Do you think the 11.1 release will fix these problems?

Is your laptop in here:
HCL/Laptops/Dell - openSUSE

Yes and no. I have an XPS M1530 - the list only has the M1330, which has similar internals.

Also - when I try to connect manually to my Bluetooth mouse, I get an error that reads:
Couldn’t display “obex://[00:07:61:*D0:C7:BF]/”/
Error: Host down
Please select another viewer and try again.

I really appreciate that you’re trying to help.

EDIT: Omit the star in the error - it was making a smiley face.

I booted to Mandriva, and I have the touchpad problem, but not the mouse. The mouse, however, lacks functionality, the wheel (click as well) and the forward and back buttons on it don’t work and I couldn’t figure out how to fix it.

So does this mean that the bluetooth software installed in openSUSE 11 isn’t the best for my mouse?

This also makes me believe that my touchpad is just screwed… any ideas?
