Am receiving the following error that I will list below. The system is a fresh reload of OpenSuse 12.1 on a AMD-64 bit platform. The system used to work with version 11.4 with no issues. I wanted to wipe and reload the system because I had Oracle on it before so I could troubleshot an install issue at work and I wanted a clean install again. At first I thought the issue was with codex’s or alike I have sat down and made sure it that all of them was loaded. When I try to list to a MP3 or even a video the system will look like it is busy but nothing comes up on the screen. When I invoke it via a command line I get the fore mention error before. Am starting to wonder if this is something that wasn’t included from installation since I don’t use gnome but XFCE. Am still troubleshooting but I haven’t found the solution yet.
If you have ran into this problem please let me know.
(totem:8633): Gdk-WARNING **: The program ‘totem’ received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was ‘BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)’.
(Details: serial 144 error_code 1 request_code 139 minor_code 66)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
So I have totem installed under openSUSE 12.1 and it loads properly. I guess I would ask about your video system. What kind of video chipset does your computer use and what driver is loaded if you know. Check out the “My Computer” icon for more information. I also have a script that can check your installed media support you can find here:
MMCHECK - Version 2.41 - Check Your Multimedia in 16 Steps - Bash Script File - Blogs - openSUSE Forums
Thank You,
I get the same error. Under 11.4 it worked. I use an AMD Card 5xxx-series with fglrx 11.11.
I would consider loading the AMD/ATI video driver. We have a thread about that here:
Upgrading ATI driver with atiupgrade - Page 9
Thank You,
i don’t understand why I should load another driver? 11.11 is the newest amd driver?
So the issue could be the driver or it could be the media setup. I would check my media setup with this script:
MMCHECK - Version 2.41 - Check Your Multimedia in 16 Steps - Bash Script File - Blogs - openSUSE Forums
If you find no issue, I would consider installing the Proprietary video driver from AMD. Since it does not work for you, some action must be taken or you can decide to not use the application.
Thank You,
I checked the packages with mmcheck. I have all required packages.
Apparently the latest proprietary driver fglrx 11.11 does not work on Opensuse 12.1 with totem.
It works now.
Instead of installing the fglrx from amd directly. I used the one provided in the opensuse repository: Index of /mirror/ati/openSUSE_12.1
thxs a lot
That is good news whaterver to hear and always the suggested method is to install a application from an openSUSE repository first. Thanks for letting us know of your success.
Thank You,
