Totally New Installation of 42.2 Desktop - Getting Rid of Two Blue Folders

Strange but on the KDE desktop of my new installation of 42.2 are two blue folders, “Home” and “Wastebin” (just like b…y windoze). These are new to me, they certainly didn’t appear on my other machines when I updated from 42.1 to 42.2.

My question is how can I get rid of them please. I can send Home to wastebin but how do I get rid of Wastebin from desktop.

Those are “.desktop” files in your “Desktop” directory.

They were always there (as files). But you previously did not see them. That’s because of a change in desktop defaults (by opensuse).

To revert:

Right click on desktop. Select “Configure Desktop”. Look for “Layout” near the top of the window that opens. Then switch that from “Folder View” to “Desktop”. And those icons will be gone (won’t show).

Previously there was a “Folder View” widget on the desktop, which did include the Home and Trash icons. If you want that back, you can use “Add Widgets”.

If you want to keep the “Folder View” of your KDE desktop, you can select those items, then press SHIFT-DEL, and confirm.

That way they will be gone with no return, i.e. without moving them to the wastebin first.
