Tostadas Help

Has anyone seen KeyserSuSE from SLS. I’ve been putting together the ingredients for his excellent pozole. But in Australia I can’t buy tostadas. Here is his recipe:
Swerdna’s Winter Spectacular - SuSE Linux Forums
Which due to the lack of soul of the merge-technicians did not make it over here into the archives.
This will be one of my entries in my family’s gourmet cooking contest (me and three wannabees trying to take my title). But I need to discover what to do about getting tostadas or making them in Oz

What happened to KeyserSuSE? Another name perhaps?

From KeyserSuse’s post:

you will also need tostadas, if you can’t buy them already in a package, then buy corn tortillas and fry them up in cooking oil, I prefer olive oil but that does change the taste. don’t use flour tortillas.

I’m assuming you can get corn tortillas? If not, Quaker Oats makes dry masa that you can use to make your own tortillas; but I don’t know if Quaker has a presence in Oz.

I know KeyserSuse didn’t like my ideas before, but the tostada he’s talking about is just a corn chip made from an entire tortilla, so maybe you could use regular flavored corn chips in place of?

Thanks sleepybozo. I don’t fancy using the small, very crisp corn chips we get here in Oz. Regarding tortillas: I just checked in the supermarket and they have packets of a soft, thin bread-like substance shaped like a disk, about 3 mm thick, called tortilla wraps. Must be tortillas I suppose. Not sure what they’re made from. Do I need to make sure they’re made from corn and not from wheat flour?

I’m getting confused here – I sense that something can be made from the soft tortilla-labelled things at my market, maybe fried in olive oil? What do you think?

Check the ingredients; flour (or wheat) tortillas just don’t fry up the same as corn tortillas. Wraps are usually wheat.

Here’s a place (in Oz) you can order them online (but their freight charges are rather steep):

It also says “Our Retail Products Are Proudly sold throughout Australia in Woolworths/Safeways and Coles as well as Independent Retail Stores.”

Here’s another reference I found:

Maybe you can contact them or at least search on their name and find an outlet near you.

You rock. There’s a Coles nearby and I’ll check it out tomorrow!

Don’t use olive oil for frying. You can’t get it hot enough without
smoking. Use standard vegetable oil (corn, canola, sunflower).

Thankyou S McB, will keep in mind, I have peanut and sunflower oil too, so will use one of those.
